Allis Chalmers 7000, good tractor?

I have the chance to buy a black belly 7000 with low hours and in good shape. My question is are there any problems with these machines that i should look out for? Also does anyone use theirs for haying? Since i'm a small farmer it's going to inherit a lot of jobs such as pulling a 9 foot disc mower conditioner, small square baler, 2 row corn picker etc. I'm thinking the tractor is overkill for what i want to use it for but for the same price should i buy something like a 185 or the 7000? sorry this is long but thanks for any input!!!!! Also the tractor has 2,300 original hours and he is asking $6,500.

2300 hours on a 30 plus year old tractor! BUY IT,my neighbors have a couple 7000's pretty good tractor, they never seem to have much for problems, good luck

I'd buy it. Does it have a cab? I'd sure like that cab if I was picking corn. AC factory cabs were pretty nice for the time. In a couple years you may be able to get a 2nd tractor or larger equipment.

Is it a 7000 or a 7000 series tractor? There is a big difference. The 7000 tractor is a newer version of the 200 and power shift only with the new sheet metal and yes there are black belly versions I sold several. It is a very nice tractor for your needs. The 7000 series starts at the 7010 thru the 7080 is an entirely different tractor with a lot of features i.e: planetary final drives and 20spd or power shift except the 7080.

make sure the tach and/or hourmeter actually still works. In general for all makes: lower hours should also be indicated by condition of drawbar, 3 point, and pto shaft. I have heard look at the pedals (brake, clutch) to see how worn the grips are for your feet. of course rubber pedal grips can fool you on a 30 yr old, since the rubber can crack and fall off prematurely due to age vs. use. or have been replaced

I would buy it! I bought one several years ago, local one owner tractor with only 1700 hrs on it. He asked if I wanted it, and I really didn't have a use for it but he asked if I would give him $3500.00 for it and I wrote the check right there. It is an older maroon belly but it is really a great tractor! Only supposed to be about 90 drawbar horsepower but it pulls like my Deere 4430 (125hp)
