What's your opinion on a allis Chalmers 7000 series powershift transmission and the 426 diesel and hydraulics and just overall

More specific please, there were three different 426s in different HPs and are you talking about the actual powershift or the power director?

I had a 7015 years ago with the powershift, pulled a heavy 16' burch disc and never had a problem with it, a friend of mine had a 7045 and pulled it really hard for about 8 years then the rear started going out. That is all the experience I have had.

Powershifts are good , but expensive to rebuild !!! They are good tough tractors , i,d go for a POWERDIRECTOR myself , the 426 is a great engine , ecept in a 7080 they are over rpm ed and will fly a part over time , very cheap horsepower and good tractors !!

Yeah specifically I'm talking about a 7060 with the 160 hp 426 and yes the actual powershift 12 speed

The 670 series engine is one of the best of that time frame; as economical as any make of similar output. The powershift should be fine if filters and maintenance procedures were followed. I prefer the Powerdirector only because there are a lot of gears to chose in the 4-7 mph range where we do most of the work

Alright How many hours should I expect before an major overhaul? This being said the engine has always been well maintained

Well maintained should last 8-10,000 hrs before major. Some we had would have gone longer, but down for other reasons so they got out of frame completely renewed engine.

If the powershift where to go out how much am I looking at to replace it..minis labor just parts ?

Only had 7045 with PS and traded it with 9000 hrs and only maintenance and simple linkage adjustments to PS. Powershift was used til the end of AC in 1984

Estimate 5 to 8 grand to rebuild a POWERSHIFT if you cant do it yourself , they are easy to do , just gotta jump in there

Weakest link in the powershift was the control valve. There were many changes an improvements made over the years of production. The black belly tractors should have the latest version, but the changes can be added to all of the earlier models. The problems I remember would cause clutches to partially engage while not selected, and some selected clutches to operate at reduced pressure. An experienced operator could tell by the movement of the powershift lever if there was a problem, and when caught in time suffer no damage.
