Hey;

Was Simplicity tractor manufactured by Allis Chalmers?
And is the model 716 Hydro Allis the same as the Model 7016 Simplicity? I ask as they sure seem to be identical.

Thnaks for the help

Sometime in the mid 60's Allis aquired Simplicity and sold them under both names. Go to simpletractors.com, they have a huge amount of Allis/Simplicity crossover information.

Yes, Simplicity built products for Allis Chalmers, and down the road Simplicity was purchased by Allis... Both labels: Simplicity and Allis Chalmers were manufactured under this arrangement... An old allis company man told me about this back in the late 70's... Much was the same with different paint jobs...

I believe Simplicity is now owned by Briggs and Stratton.
You will find that most Allis Chalmers lawn and garden product have a twin with the Simplicity name and most all parts are the same between them.

Under the Yard Power Products Group, Briggs & Stratton manufactures products under the Ferris, Simplicity, Snapper, Snapper-Pro, Giant-Vac, and Murray brands.

AC owned them for a while, then simplicity bought themselves out of the deal at about the time that AC went bust. Like Jeff says below, maybe Briggs owns them now. And there is an AC mower for sale, right now, I think its a rebadged simplicity, kinda a reverse of the prior arrangement!

Dealer where I worked sold B10's, 100, 200 series by the truckload. We sold 3 and 400 series like that also, but they had been re-designed, and not for the better. I read recently it had something to do with some kind of legal issue- AC couldn't sell the identical machine as Simplicity. I think by the time they came out with the 700 series it was resolved and they were all back to the Simp. design.
Up through the 200 series the single cylinder B&S were indestructible. The Kohlers starting in the 300's had permanent magnet starters, compression release, balance gears, interior flywheel alternators, etc. etc. all of which were trouble.

Glad to hear that about the 100 series Bob. I recently purchased an Allis B-110 and was thoroughly impressed by the simple yet rugged design of the tractor. I was fascinated by it having three PTO's and the shear number of attachments these tractors have. Everything from snowthrowers to gang mowers, cultivators to forklifts. The only drawback I could see is that it isn't orange. Oh well can't have everything. Gerard

Hey;

I there any larger belly mower for the Simplicity 7016 than the original 48" incher? Also, how well does this 16 HP Briggs hold up?

I remember the big announcement at one of our District Manager sales meetings in the late 60's that AC had purchased Simplicity and formed a Lawn & Garden division. Then we were told that the branch had shipped a walk-behind mower to each of our houses. We either had to get an order from one of our dealers or pay for the lawn mower ourselves. I got one of my dealers to take it; he used it at his house for many years.
