My chart shows 1954. It has a WD45 engine, which is correct as they were made from 1953 to 1957I recently bought a Model D that seems to be in fairly good condition. The frame # is: D-3789. Does anyone know the year it was made? It does not have a serial # on the engine block, so it was probably replaced some time in the past. I think it was owned by a county in southeast Colorado.
When it warms up I will start cleaning it and changing the fluids, and fix a little of this and that.
A couple of pics are attached.
Mine is D 3099, so earlier! Now that is a nice grader, especially with that dozer blade on the front. That is the first one I have seen. It doesn't happen to have the dual range transmission does it?
Your looks like it may be a bit later than mine (D-3789) due to the front wheel style. It's nice to see that there is another D grader with lugs twisted off. Mine has about one on each wheel.
It's difficult to determine if it have power steering? I hope it does or else the added weight of the blade will make turning even more of an effort.
I think mine was owned by a county so it has lights all over the place front and rear, not that any of them actually work!! That will be a project all by itself.
I have three model D graders. Best to look carefully in front of the cab where the big tube is welded to the cab. A common area for cracks. You may see some massive welds in the area too. 1954 seems right, it will have the WD45 if original engine. Early machines had a WC, and later had a ser 1 D17 engine. Each of mine has a different engine in it. You have some nice options. Closed cab, hyd turntable and both power steering and leaning front wheel.I recently bought a Model D that seems to be in fairly good condition. The frame # is: D-3789.
