Allis D17 Electrical system

Interesting responses. My 1963 Series III is a 12 volt, positive ground. Started farming in '72 with a Series I, I think that was 12volt, positive ground. Don't think it was 6v, but definately positive ground.

I believe D17 Series I models were 6V PG. Sometime in early production, AC upgraded to 12V PG, and the rest followed with 12V PG through the different series..

I know you are all talking D17's and I find it interesting that there are different responses. I have a '63 D12 Series II that is 12 volt positive ground from the factory. Evidently everyone believes they were all 6 volt. Why would that be?

There may be some early ones out there that aren"t, but I have never seen a D17 with original generater and battery set up that wasn"t 12V, positive ground. Jim

I have a rebuilt starter motor for the D17 6V PG system Series I Gas which is an 1107466.
I also offer a wiring harness for the same, so the gas version did start off as 6V PG, and did change over to 12V PG sometime during production. I was going out of memory the first time, and started thinking about it and thought maybe that was the D14 I was thinking of till I did a little research. I'm still learning the "D" series yet...
