What is the closest the piston should come to the top of the deck in a wc block I want to use wd45 crank and flat top wc pistons what will my compression be any help would be great

12.656 is deck height unless its had alot removed from the deck. Wc pistons on a 45 crank should be around a 9.1 comp ratio.

Mitch, is that whole family of motors (WC, WD, WD45, D17, Gleaner Combine motor), are they all 12.656?

As far as I am aware of in my own measuring the 201 wc block I checked against 2 d17 226 blocks measured 12.656 . Also as far as I am aware of all 201 ci and 226 allis engines had 7.5 inch long rods unless we get into the leroi 226 with canted rod caps and a 8 inch long rod that was only used with the leroi combustion chambered head . of coarse any deck machining will affect the deck height measurement.

allis 201 or 226 rods are 7.5 long lerio canted cap rod is 8 inches long here is the allis rod beside the leroi rod for a visual comparison.

(quoted from post at 15:24:17 02/18/11) Is there a difference in compression height from a WC to a WD? What happens when you run a WD45 crank and WD pistons?
Here is a picture of the underside of a allis 226 d17 head all the heads are flat as this one . When you move the piston up in the bore the compression goes up . It depends on the wd piston you use. Is it a all fuel piston, Lp piston, or gas piston.

If by chance you were to have a set of Leroi rods and a set of the 2.600 compression height z code gleaner or 175 pistons which are the tallest comp. height pistons I am aware of you would still be .194 below the deck with a compression ratio of 19.63 to high. .250 below deck 16.1 cr not to high but you need to know what your doing a comp. ratio that high does not tolerate cross wiring at all it would bust everything in it .350 below deck 12.3 ,.450 below 10.1 cr 550 below the deck 8.5 cr . That was figured with a standard head gasket with a 4.250 bore and .042 thickness . The piston diameter was figure at the stock 4 inch bore with a stock 4.5 stroke.

mplankey IM IMPRESSED ON YOU HELPLING FELLOW A/C GUYS IM A IH GUY AT HEART BUT HAVE WD THAT HAS D 17 MOTOR IN IT WITH SOME MODS THAT IS FUN TO PULL GLAD TO SEE YOU OFFER SOME HELP TO COMPETION IN NEED .RED AND ORANGE STILL DONT MAKE GREEN

I have had much success with using leroi rods and dished 4.125 clevite pistons. The pistons come to the top of the deck, so you have to cut reliefs to clear valves. The dish is the entire combustion chamber.Ive been running this combo for several years with no reliability issues. It makes alot of h.p. for a 241.
