Allis IB

Am restoring the above tractor and need to know the size of tires and type they put on the front of it.

As a matter of interest what was the market intended by Allis Chalmers for the IB? Its heavy wrap around frame indicates they had some ambitious plans for it.

I have 5 inch, 3 rib on the front of mine. Have also seen lawn tires on some. This was an industrial version of the little B. The main frame was to protect and serve as a bumper. They used them in factories to push or pull wagons or parts to the assembly line. County and State highway departments used them to mow road sides with sickee mowers. I have one that has a brass tag saying it was sold in Canada to a railroad company, They used it to maintain the roadways, cut weeds. There are photos of some with a loader on the front. Some have a pental hook on the back to pull wagon. Have seen a photo or two with a picker or boom frame sticking up 10-12 feet in front to lift ??? like a pipe layer.

I read somewhere the IB was used to "bump" rail cars into position. The torque tube/frame is shorter than a std. B and the IB turns much shorter than a std. B so the IB could get in between rail cars to do their job. That explains the wrap around frame, also.
