Kurt Hammel builds it 175 hp is what he told me once he could get from one maybe more than that now . It was several years ago when his build was in hook magazine. I guess mine is 175 to 200 hp. My machinist friend who specializes in dirt track engines thinks 180 is the lowest hp number we are making with a soft tune in it.

JT Richardson before he passed away told me he could make 167hp. So I would say all these numbers are close.

What an Amazing engine..!!
It started life way early and was "Stroked and Poked" by the Manufacturer and was marvelous..
Now, they are seemingly doing the Impossible..Quadrupling that Horse Power..!!
Probably close to 1 HP per Pound..!!
Those are Aircraft numbers..!

Ron..

advancement in technology of parts always leads to advancements in horsepower . The engine I built and have pictured some on yt has alot of titanium pieces and other light friction reducing materials. These material come with a price tag but doesnt most superior materials.

i bought the wc mr tommy pulled and he told me it was 100hp but LW said he dynoed it and it was only 65 and the big wd he pulled was 125hp. those numbers seem big

In it's day, the WD-45 was a real Power-House..almost a Hotrod of sorts..
The snap of those governors is legendary...could (and did) rattle slip-clutches on equipment..!!
Drive one a couple of good days and you build some good forearms..!!!

Ron.

I have no promblem with dynoing it . would have dyno it on performances engine dyno but it wouldnt fit . My weeker 310 motor dynod 80 hp at the rear wheels with 15.5 38 rubber . Once you factor in the parasitic loss for tire height and tranny she went well over a hundred at the flywheel. the pto is removed.

the power to the rear wheels is what does it in tractor pulling. you can have to much or not enough and it can hurt you bad. how big is the engine you built in cubic inches.

I have enough power to spin wheels at will in high gear running across the field with nothing hooked to the tractor and thats not clutching it to do it but releasing the clutch at low rpms and getting the tractor rolling before twisten its ears back.

ok i still think the hp numbers are high at 175 to 200 on that ci engine cause i got almost 600ci in a moline and it done 170 on LW dyno when he built it but that is my opinion. but as a lot of people say LW has a stingy dyno so i probably could get 200hp on some other dyno.

Its fair enough if you have your doubts . I doubt you installed 1000 dollars worth of titanium valves in the moline also. One thing I have learned about horsepower is its the head and the cam that produces it. 100 hp head on 300 cubic inches is 100 hp head on 400 cubic inches the 400 ci will just make the hp at a lower rpm.

ps remember also most of the tractor jt and buddy sold were tractors they had pulled alot . so they were probably down on hp due to their age. I am not for sure but i think they still have the tractor that he said made 167.

Yes our WD-45 mostly loafed along with what implements we had, but when the govener kicked in you got some real torque. Amazing you can get a lot more Hp out of these engines.
