Alternator/External Voltage regulator

A few years ago I inherited my Great Granpas Allis Wd 45 from my dad. I got it working great! Well, this spring I had some transmission probs and found out it was just shifter lever .. not a big deal. After I replaced the lever I fired up the tractor and then all of a sudden my wiring from alternator/voltage regulator shorted out somewhere an burned up. (everything was really old) I ended up replacing ALL the wires, voltage regulator, and alternator. Rewiring was really not too big of a problem except for the alternator and voltage regulator. Im not sure how to hook it up.(wWon't charge) The first replacement regulator ended burning up because i touch the wrong areas together. (oops)

Here it was is being used:

7509 Chrysler Squareback Alternator
--one post
--two FLD

vr-32 Voltage regulator
--one IGN
--one FLD

The original alternator was an earlier chrysler with one FLD and one post. The Auto parts store I went to could not get same replacement alternator so they set me up with the this other alternator (70s model same things except one more FLD). The gentle man I spoke to said the second FLD wire would have to be grounded in order for my voltage reulator to work. Looking around online I discovered other websites saying the same thing. SOOOO the post wire goes to the + terminal on the battery. ONE Fld connection on alternator gets grounded. ONE Fld goes to (fld) regulator. Where does the IGN wire from the voltage regultor go?

Anyone have a setup like this that I can cheat from? Pictures?? The old black and white Allis manual isnt helping me this time LOL

Am I close or really far away to figuring this out? I just want to get the electrical running again before winter.

Need pics from me? Feel free to ask an I will show you.

Thanks!

On the later model Chrysler alternator, to use the regulator you have, you connect one of the field terminals to ground. It does not matter which one. The other Field terminal you connect to the field terminal of the regulator. The other terminal of the regulator is connected to 12 volts that is switched by the ignition switch. The larger terminal of the alternator connects to the positive post of the battery.
