American pickers

Anyone see the new American pickers tonight? Frank and Mike visited an old farm lots of old farmall tractors and such hidden in the weeds. Very neat to see.

Saw one recently where there was a Cushman scooter in the backround for an instant but apparently they weren't interested, though they are sometimes.

Mike L.; I seen that also and it was a good one. did you see that gentlemens cast CASE eagle on the globe in the background when the went into the second building? and the pickers were not even interested in looking at it. john [P.S.MIKE DID YOU FIND ANY MORE OUT ON THE TO CASES? PH. JOHN @ 309-635-1587

They drive me crazy. They want motorcycles and metal signs. Here and there they look at something else. As others have said, I see toys and kerosene lamps, railroad stuff, etc. They just walk past stuff that is worth sone big bucks. She looks like a circus side show act.

John, I am going to pass on both of them, I recently bought a 730 case gasser I'm goona use for parts for my highcrop 730 comfort king. The rest I'm going to part out.

You had to feel sorry for the guy trying to clean the place up. There was so much junk around and all the buildings were not keeping out the weather. They never seem to be interested in anything farm related except maybe signs and they are from Iowa. There were a bunch of tractors including an MD or Super MD and some Alice Chambers and other various machinery including an old John Deere combine.

Like most other "reality" shows, American Pickers is highly scripted. I know of two brothers (toy collectors) about five miles from me who were contacted about a pick, and they had to agree to sell numerous things (which they never do) if they wanted to be on the show. I also love the "picked for" and "value" prices. I wonder how close they come to getting what they think something is worth. Still an entertaining show, though, once you accept that it's not really "reality" by most definitions.

I don't like the show because they remind me of the people who used to buy stuff from my Dad for little or nothing. Dad would sell almost anything on the farm for $12. Special place in Hell for people like that!

Though its obviously a show, all those places and things are real. And that's what I like about it. Any show is going to be scripted to an extent. If you cant accept that then you should just turn the TV off all together.
They don't deal with farm stuff because for the most part tractors and such aren't really worth much. And they are obviously bulky. Most of the tractors they come across have been sitting for a long time so they're probably worth a shade over scrap.
Now some of the other things they pass up, well I suppose they don't know the value of everything.

Yea they get a deal on stuff. But its known that before they even knock on the door. And I have seen several shows where someone said they'd sell something for $100 and Mike said that's just too low.
If you ever see their truck pull into your driveway, don't expect to receive retail value on anything.

Of course you won't! They have costs to cover and deserve to make a reasonable profit like any other business. If they paid "retail" for everything, there would be "no meat on the bone" as Mike likes to say.

The pickers pay about 50% of "retail" value on the items they buy. That's pretty good. You're lucky to get 10 cents on the dollar at an estate auction, plus you have to pay commission.

That's what I mean.
Most people that sell to them probably have no problem because they know if they don't the things are gonna sit there and rot, then when they die their wives are just gonna chuck all their crap in the nearest dumpster.
