American tools

I am getting carried away with rejecting this new wave of Chinese tools. I won"t knowingly buy one anymore. I like the heft and overall quality of American tools.

Anyhow, what I need right now is a 20 ton bottle jack. All I have found are made in China (Craftsman, Home Depot and Lowes). Anyone know if one is still made in the USA?

WHAT in the world do the chinx use for tools ,, Surely not the boat anchor jacks they sent to my beloved US and I bought cause I could not find an AMERICAN made jack anywhere.. ARRRRGH

Is "Chinx" the slur that j heitkemper committed above? That seems pretty minor, no?

My Chinese wife is from a well-off manufacturing family, they prefer US made stuff for sure. They load up on it when they come over here.

I have kind of given up on buying American made, luckily I bought most of my hand tools 40 years ago when most were made in US. I used to be able to borrow specialty tools from my place of work but since I recently retired I have bought some from Harbor freight, most of which are satisfactory for my needs. I like to stop at garage sales because you find some good deals on American made tools sometimes. I like Swedish chain saws, Honda 4-wheelers,(which are assembled in US, of many US parts) but I love my Chevy truck!

We can joke among ourselves a little. They are a proud people who do well in life. I don't make insults, so address it to j heitkemper. Still, I don't think they would care one way or another.

My wife is the only Chinese import that I don't regret... does that little joke offend you too? wouldn't bother her.

Actually the Chinese companys and people I dealt with are realy helpfull, they make Items on US DEMAND and specs. dont blame them,blame the importers.
At least they will go out on a limb to make something you want.

US manufactories say "take it or leave" it, and wont modefy notting for ye.

I live among Chinese and I do ask them about "buying Chinese," They tell me that they don't buy it, they buy things from, "other places." I guess they mean the US or Europe, but I'm not sure. One woman told me that the Chinese stuff is, "for the Americans." She went on to say that the Chinese think we are silly, spoiled, and lazy. Mind you, these are people that work seven days a week, maybe fourteen hour days, send their kids to private schools, and drive Mercedes cars after being here five years. It's a different culture to be sure. Farm workers get "sponsored," come here and work like slaves for five years, then go back to China and live like kings.

if ya want to pay much more for american made, i'm sure it is available. that's the problem now. everyone wants quality and cheap prices and they don't exist together. american workers make many times more than foreign countries and our products naturally cost more and in some isolated cases, the products are no better than foreign made. i have some american made tools that are simply junk and some foreign tools that are top quality.

OTC jacks should still be made in the US, the real blue OTC, not the OTC Stinger line.

The main problem I have found with COMMUNIST CHINA Products is the quality of their building material. Do research and you will find that they have the poorest quality steel in the world. Buy yourself a "quality" Chinese knife, and you will see that nearly all will not hold an edge because of this.
China makes a goodlooking "copy" of another country"s product design and their intention is to make it cheaper with CHILD labor.
There are still many products made in other countries but one has to do research to find them. And, as was stated, you will pay more.
I just got back from Lowes where I bought a freeze-proof faucet. The China Junk was priced at about $28.00 and the AMERICAN faucet was $38.00. I had to hunt for the American product and they only had two.
