And, Everything WAS Going So Well Too

Derned Bonehead!

This is how NOT to remove a header clutch! :>(

Project is starting to get a little bit expensive, due mostly to my foolishness. New $195 hub on order. :>(

And, that isn't the half of it. That old hub still isn't off the combine. Kinda wonder if I gotta pull that shaft? Parts breakdown shows a "retaining ring" on the inside? Geeze!

Yep,

Took the electric coil and drive plate off, then used a rosebud to get the complete hub cherry red. It simply will not budge.

Have been soaking the thing for a week too. I think maybe there is a keeper hiding on the inside of the pulley and the whole shebang needs to come out of the combine to access it.

Don't even wanna ruin any more parts. That clutch is something like $800. 'Spose the shaft is a couple of hundred by itself. :>(

Hmmm. Must be some good paint not to burn off. Oh well. Since the part is already broken can you get a grinder to it and cut it some to relieve some of the stress? Best of luck.

Don't ya just hate when you hear the "snap" of a part that you thought budged, only to find out that only a piece has let go. Ruins my whole day.

Hey Allen. I've never had one of those apart but could it be that it's against a shoulder on the shaft and it has to go off the other end of the shaft? Just wondering........rw

in the second pic on the hub just to the right of the shaft I can see through the webbing what looks like a pin through the shaft or is that something else?

That's just the grease and dirt that has fallen away from the inner idler bearing.

Been working on it all morning. There is an "eyed" snap ring on the outside of the hub located on the inside clear in against the shaft bearing.

Evidently, that snap right snaps into a groove on the shaft as it is installed. Pullin' the pulley/bearing on the other side of the machine now so that I can move the whole works out the left side of the machine a bit to get to it.

I coulda pulled on that hub until I turned 19 again and it would have never given away. Gots to release that snap ring first. :>(

I am sorry my advice (fix it or break it some more) didn't work quite like I'd hoped. That BF puller in the picture looked husky enough. I hate snaprings, especially when they are in places I can't get to.

Not your fault, Pard.

I just didn't know how it was put together and it cost me an expensive lesson.

Aw well, onwards and upwards as they say. :>)

Trucker, I don't think welding is needed in this case, Allans luck being like mine, it would put the thing outta balance and throw out the bearings. Sounds like My luck today Allan. Tore up my boots, bent up a piece of 1/4 inch steel plate that is a skid plate for the skid steer, and had to replace a one horse motor on a fan to save a service and had to call some one anyway because the plug burnt up and I didn't know it. Kinda doubt the motor was bad, although it did sound as if one of the bearings was going.

Something that pulls that hard--Wouldn't it be worth your while to fabricate a plate with FOUR pulling points, rather than the two? And rap the end of the puller shaft while the pressure is applied to break the pulley loose. On the other hand, there could well be something else besides rust holding it tight.
