Another '98 Dodge Question

I have a '98 Dodge Cummins 3500 auto 4x4 electric hoist dump truck. I just purchased a new Muncie PTO on eBay.

My milage is not that good at around 14 mpg but I am afraid this PTO, when installed, is going to lower it further. The input gear on the PTO is constant mesh even when the PTO is out of gear. A shifting yoke moves a collar to couple it to the gear next to it. This completes the delivery of power to the transfer case mounted PTO.

I am concerned that this parasitic load will lower my MPGs. What do you think and how bad will it be?

I haven't had any direct experience, although I'm familiar with the PTO you'r referring to.

With a truck like yours, I wouldn't think spinning that gear without the PTO engaged could make a noticeable difference in fuel mileage.

That pto won't put much load on that engine won.t hurt milage .Mine had the catalitic converter [FALL] off and it raised my milage 2 to 3 miles per gallon . Depending on your location maybe yours could fall off also.

Your MPG is better than my "97 dodge 5.9L gas...it averages 12 empty! Your mpg sounds low for the diesel running empty.. but sounds about right for loaded...

Is yours a gas or diesel ? Mine is rattling on my gas 360 and sounds like it might (fall) off too. So when they (fall) off does this cause a problem with the o2 sensors or if you just stick them back in a pipe do they work again ?
