Another Fuel Saver

Saw a new fuel saver device on TV. Its Called the HYDRO-4000. The test was done by station WPTV and reported on KSHB in KC. 05-08-08 See web-site---Hydro 4000---

Vehicle fully tuned up and serviced. Ran on dynamometer and got 9.4 MPG. Added the new gismo and got 23.2 MPG. Ran it around for a month and then on the road it got 16.1 MPG.

Cost is about $1200.00, so they say.

If I put two on my truck, would I get 32.2 MPG??
It must be true----they said so on TV!!!!

Saw a bridge the other day on TV thats for sale. Dont you think IF that device is for real the auto people would have had it yrs ago.

I read the article. It sure sounds like the TV news guys were duped.

From the article: "...in any engine, roughly 15% of the gas isn't burned; instead its pushed out through your exhaust pipe." That alone is enough to tell you whoever wrote the article has no mechanical background. If that was a true statement, there are no cars on the road that will pass a smog test. Not to mention they don't explain how recovering this supposed 15 percent wasted fuel is supposed to double the gas mileage.

Here's a link to the article.
Idiotic WPTV review of miracle device

"Not to mention how recovering %15 of wasted fuel is supposed to double gas milage"

Yeah it does accually, it just burns up the rest of the gas in the exhaust pipe :-)

If your cat convertor was burning 15% of the fuel put in your car it would need a huge air pump and air hose leading to it.

When rally cars spool up injector dumps raw gas into the exhaust to keep the turbo spinning, they might be getting close to the 15% mark. Or dragsters with way aggressive cams idling, they dump massive quantities of fuel. But not your everyday car. Unless you pull a spark plug wire.

Basically, it looks like water injection. It probably cleaned all the carbon out of the news truck's engine and that would explain their success....

Salesman told the farmer that a new Ashley stove would save half the wood, farmer Ill take two and save all my wood.

Makes ya go hmmmm? Okay ,,throw out all the bizzare fuel savings claims for a minute . This appears to to be some type of Hydrogen generator . Now,,<open minded here > How much hydrogen does it produce? How much can you introduce to cars intake air , and what effect would it have on the fuel /air mixture ?
Part 2 # What does water injection do ? what effect does it have on mileage /horsepower, and how does it achive this ?
There are going to to be lots and lots of "snake oils " coming out with the high gas prices . Most junk, but unless some unconventional thinking comes along, we'll be stuck in the currant rut we are . How bout another look at Somkey Yunick's "Hot Vapor engine " ? Big oil and Auto copmanies sure don't want someone comming along and raining on their parade , but we sure need some fresh ideas .
Now ,everyone grab case of beer , head out to garage and get to building that 100 mpg car !!! lol

When I was a teenager back in the early '50s,--- we would put a spark plug in our cars tail pipe,----hooked too a model T Ford coil.....the unburned gas would shoot flames 6'....................Don

I agree but don't really know for certain. Check out browns gas . Think it does help on constant speed/load conditions. Last Farm Show Mag guy was giving away plans for generator.

Saw a show where they busted one of quack devices. It was either the tornado one or the fuel magnet, I forget which.

They put a toyota or something like that on a chassis dyno started it up and ran it showing fuel consumption, power etc. Then they put the doo-hickey on there in about 10 minutes and ran again showing mileage increase etc.

Well what happened is when they ran it the first time, the motor was cold and was running on the cold start cycle, running richer. After test 1 and the soak time while they installed the doo-hickey, the car was warmed up enough to run in the normal warmed up cycle. So of course it used less fuel. They don't tell you that in the ad but they busted them on this show!

I've seen people do basically the same thing vis-a vi a race engine on a dyno by not duplicating all factors (temps, air density, oil temp, etc.) during a dyno run. You can sure be misled.

Reminds me of the Ma and Pa Kettle division skit on youtube. I taught math and can see all these little gears turning in their heads.....

I saw something like this before, on this ytmag site. I believe that it might work, but I am curious, If I had a older car, like my junk saturn with 90K miles on it I might try it but my new 07 cobalt I may trash the warranty. I would trust any regular on this site though and would love to see REAL results if it works.
I also wonder if someone used an oxygen bottle and increased the O2 content if it would increase MPG, I am talking about pumping it into the air intake. I wonder what a bottle of O2 costs.
