Another tractor question

What kind of tractor can i buy for around $1000 that has a live PTO and a 3pt system? I know everyone says for the price of a ford 2n,8n,9n you spend a few more hunderd and you can get a bigger tractor with more hp. But im stuck between a rock and a hardplace here. I dont own very much land i own 6 acres at this new house we just moved into and i plan on cutting trees down and makeing a little food plot that is about 1 acre and i have about 5 acres of feild at our other house that we are trying to sell. SO i wanted to plant another food plot there incase it dosent sell right away so i can hunt it. I am also on a very tight income. SO $1000 is almost as much as i can go right now.

Sorry to say, there are no good running tractors with Live PTO and 3pt for 1000. The tractors are there, but they are broken or worn to nubbins with tires that have air showing through. Any tractor you get will be a very lucky find, or someone will be doing you a big favor. Brand in this case does not matter, the fact is those two items on a running tractor put it at 1500 to 2500 JimN

My opinion is-=You are out of luck= Tractor collectors are on the prowl for such as you want and are willing to pay more than 1K for an inoperative Tractor. However, For 1K you should be able to find a "Custom" operator to till & plant if need be, your small acerage as long as you do not have an Yield agenda. I know that is what I would do.

For $1000 you would be lucky to find any thing that ran and or had what you want. Double that and maybe but then there still few and far between. That said I do have at least one that fits that I'd sell but its not going to sell for that $1000.

About ten years back for $1750 I bought a Farmall 300. It had a 3ph,lpto,an 8' back blade,worn out hydraulics and a cracked head.Also had TA. No,I didnt get all fixed up
before I retired.

If you find what you are looking for at that price, you will be lucky! I wouldn't keep my hopes up too high though.

Well, no live PTO, but an N is your only option. LOOK HARD!!! canvas every old barn, farm, and hilltop for one. I've found garden tractors like that, you go to the house and just ask them. Now, the olny old farms down here are the "Holdouts" Who diddnt sell out to the megafarm, the Dulls, and kept their equiptment after the owner retired. As for garden trtactors, theres usually some "dead one" just "in that there shed". I dont know about your area though. Just look. Maby you can buy "Bills old rattletrap" for only a few huyndred dollares. Sometimes I'll offer $60 for a mower and the first responce is " Wow its worth that much". My price, what I sell it for, depends on this moment. I charge for expences and $20-$30 profit.

Allis WD with 3 point conversion....most for the money. Transmission clutch that equals live PTO.

For $1000 dollars you will get a ragged out ford 9n if you are lucky. And that is not really always a bad thing either. Why the big yank for a live pto? You probably don't even need one. Get and overunning coupler. For the amount of land you are talking a Ford N (9n,8n, 2n) would be perfect for all the tillage, post hole digging, disking, plowing, brushogging, dirt scooping, grading, general snowplowing, anything you want at a fair price. Implements are literally everywhere by the dozen. I have owned a ford 9n for 20 years, painted it twice, rebuilt it once, put two clutches in it, fixed a couple of tires and used the living He!! out of it for the entire time doing all the above mentioned tasks on this place. It never gets a break and it is usually always up to whatever task I put it up to. Right now it is hooked up to a car trailer on the front hitch and I am using it to move the trailer around with 6 yards of woodchips (mulch) that I am putting around trees. There is no end to what you can do with a 9n (within reason) parts are everywhere, and you can use them forever and sell them for as much or more than you pay for them. How many other items can make that claim. Get the ford like everybody else did! Good luck.

I'd save some more $$ and keep looking around, as your budget may not be enought to provide what you are looking for and or need, one of those N series would probably get you by.

The thing that cuaght my attention was the cutting of trees, and although many people do it, towing logs with one of these is a dangerous task that can get you dead quick, something to be aware of if you are not already, 1 year ago a distant relative turned one over on himself in front of his brother, it don't take much, but you may already know this.

mahanda is a very good item for the price.. i have 2. one 2 w d and a 4wd with loader.. i use them in the hay fields and plowing,, 4 years no down time

Look for a smaller I H built between 1961 and 1975. they are good stout tractors they have independent pto' good 3pts and some have power steering and they will cost 1/2 of a ford or massey ( as for the Mahindra's they are just the new models of those tractors)
