With gas prices as high as they are would you drive 10 miles out the way (5 miles there and 5 miles back) to save $.10 per gallon????????

No. But it depends on how many miles to the gallon you are getting. The average fill-up is 15 gallons. You would save $1.50.
If you get 20 miles per gallon and drive 10 miles out of your way with gas at $4.00 a gallon it will cost you around $2.00 to drive the extra 10 miles.
You would lose money.
To make it more complex even if you figure the return 5 miles at 10 cents a gallon cheaper it will still cost you money, maybe, I think, I guess, who knows.

I take back what I said about miles per gallon. Even if I was getting 40 miles to a gallon the extra ten miles would only save me around 50 cents.

Well since this original post has no tractor related theme like this section is suppose to have I figured nobody would really care if I didn't really pay attention to the question either and it was late when I posted it and I was drunk.

While you're on the topic, news channel I watch showed thousands of southern California motorists crossing into Mexico to buy gas about $1.50 cheaper than it is in California. Something's wrong with this picture, hmmm you might be robbed in Mexico, or get robbed here.

I just drove 200 miles to help a friend. Price of fuel was 10 cent cheaper than at home. Didn't need to but I filled up before I went home.

I try to keep prices checked as I travel and if I can use some I will get it at a cheaper price if available. Wife has relatives in Va. and Va. is always cheaper than NC. so if I know we are going there I will wait until we go. I will not drive much out of the way because I get 18 mpg and it doesn't take many miles to kill any savings. we usually go to Winston-Salem about once a week and gas on the way is cheaper than here at home so I will get gas there, but we are going there any way so it is not out of the way.

I have a ford 8n tractor, to keep it tractor related also.

The answer is NO!! Based on the fact that anyone who works at a government job, and uses their personal vehicle to travel to meetings, training sessions, etc, will be reimbursed @50 cents per mile. That translates to a $5.00 bill to travel that 10 miles.
