antique tractor pulling?

I am curious to see if anyone out there believes that antique tractor pulling is getting to be a thing of the past?

In our club we have no young pullers and the older ones are selling their tractors and we normally dont have any spectators.

Just seeing if anyone else has the same situation!

Here in Md our hook numbers have gone up steady in the past two years, But I look for a decline this year. Fuel is too expensive!!!! Personally, If I can't get there and back on a tank of fuel ,I'm not going, and maybe not even then. In 05 I bought a diesel truck,(some of the cheepest fuel to refine), now it's a dollar a gal. higher than gas. It just sits most of the time. Sorry for the rant.

Here in Ohio numbers are down in some of the clubs but I beleave it's due to cost of fuel ect.and the same old, same old. There seem to be a lot of younger pullers at least in my area. I do beleave all the clubs ect will need to reach out to the younger pullers and see what it will take to draw in the younger pullers and families so that the antique pulls can and will continue.Don't want to rattle any feathers but people don't want to watch over and over the same people pulling the same old tractors over and over. People want to see more and new action so to draw in spectators, you need to draw in new pullers, new families, and new action. I also think there would be less older pullers getting out if there was new action coming in.

we (our family) has cut back due to high fuel price on number of pulls we attend. plus we don't get any flyers or info on pulls anymore. we used to get alot of info and now have to look for somewhere to go. I blame the organizers of these pulls for lack of advertising, as a past organizer/promoter I understand it takes some work but that is what it takes.

MATPA is going strong!!!

2007 Showdown pull in Boonville, MO - 353 Hooks in 8 hours. Grandstands were full almost the entire time.

Antique pulling isn"t really about the "fans" - MOST of them are family members anyway. If you have to spend $50-$100 in fuel just to get there, maybe we should pull 4-5 times instead of the "Maximum 2-3"

I pull up in Wisconsin, there is 4 of us that pull and we're 15, i think you just have to have the right people, like farm boys, grew up by or live on farms and work on them, those are the people that pull, but nowadays there is getting to be to many city slicker that don't even know the the word farm or tractor means, it's pretty sad.

Quite a few younger guys(and a couple girls) in the area like antique pulling....a lot of the older guys(me excepted) shy away from it because they think it is rough on their tractors...and they think there's some cheating going on. They even think I'm cheating a little....that's incredible.... because I'm older than most of them. I highly encourage the younger guys and girls to get into antique pulling and don't mind it at all when they beat me.

down in south carolina at www.edmundantiquetractorpull.com is looking for more smokers and big tractors to keep the people on there edge of the seat. like the 21mph diesels IH that pulled saturday. what a show.awsome self propelled sled great group of people good hp tractors and even 3000lb pullers. one 3500lb 420 pulled 148ft or so.pulls most every month easy to find motels near by.see yall in may

Hey MAPTA i noticed your club had some tractors with v-8 motors in them. What is the cube limit on that class? Can you run cut tires if so how big? Do the motors have to be big block or small block? Might come down and play with you guy's

360ci, 18.4x38 cut tires. I re-read the rules and I dont see anything saying you cant run a big block, so if you want to de-cube one that far, you can. Everyone that has pulled with us so far though has been small block.

Where about are you from?

Ok. I have a small block but i am out cubing all of them though. I am aloud 410 cube and 8,000 rpm

young people have to go to some kind of ag school like i do or have lived on a farm to get into it in my opinion, I got intested to tractors by driving a super C...many people dont like being the "hick" or redneck around here but sence i go to an ag school 70% of us there in the program are hicks to some extent..times are changing and i cant see tractor pulling making it around here for a couple more generations..sad but i think true

my son and i started pulling a couple of years ago after spending years restoring.i would not trade the time i get to spend with my son who is 18 now for anything in the world. we have alot of good times together and have met alot of great people. so grab your kid put him or her on and have a blast. my two cents!!!!!

W. Central Mn there is only 1 kid under 18 that pulls around here, a half of dozen of them maybe under 25. I am 31 and there are quite a few my age give or take a couple years. We dont have a club we belong to but we have a good sled most of us follow. I have pulled starting my 5th year, last year I organized my first pull and had 84 hooks. Forecasting around a hundred this year. After basic starting up money I still think there are more expensive hobbies for younger crowed to do.

I pull primarily in NW Wisconsin with a few hooks across the river in MN.
I'm 22 years old and am going into my 16th year of tractor pulling.

In my area there's probably right around 15 people near my age on either side that pull most of the season.
