Anyone Ever Install Warning Lights?

I am contemplating installing flashing warning lights on my '51 8N with 6 volt system. Has anyone ever done this? I found an article about wiring a motorcycle, but nothing about hooking up a tractor.

I have a 28 day timer on them!!!

Ken......do it the eazy way, gitt some flashlite operated safety blinkers from BICYCLE store. NO WIRING required. Simple, eh? ......Dell

Hi --

I installed them on the Jubilee for the cab that I put on it. I used a 6volt turn signal flasher and wired it to a switch then to the brake lights on the rear. THe Napa part # is NF 535. THe tail lights are wired to the same circuit as the head lights.

I sure did.

I used the double face, red/yellow from NAPA with yellow facing forward, red to the rear. It is possible to do this with the 6V system, but the generator is pretty weak for 2 headlights, 1 rear facing work light, and the flasher lights.

I'm sure the originality police would arrest me, but I'd probably still be alive. Driving with the dim 6V lights and one anemic red to the rear is an invitation to an early funeral in these parts. Among our small tractors, i have converted 4 of them to 12V with flashing warning lights, and have installed similar but bigger systems on our big tractors with cabs.

If your N already has a good 12V system, the approximate cost for the safety lighting should not exceed $25 for the parts. And it is very simple to wire up. Be seen and stay alive.

Paul makes good points. As I keep my 8N off the (very rural) roads after dark, I only installed a single rear-facing red (12v marker light for a trailer, which works fine on my 6v system). It's on the same circuit as my rear work light, so I'm pretty visible with it on, but like I said, I prefer to not take chances after dark.

Ya beat me to it ! The bike ones have programable LCD blinky/flashy styles that are nigh impossible to miss, and are cheap. Gave one I had to a neighbor kid and the battery lasted a year !

You should be able to get almost anything in 6v as in 12v,except fancy led's .Adaptors or invertors used to be readily availible back when VWs were popular,so that radios etc. would work.A good auto parts store like napa or Carquest etc. may be able to get6v flashers,bulbs,etc.--happy hunting---lha

Up here in michigan, you can just look for two of those abandoned orange barrels lol. There easy to come by always road construction. I didn't just say that did I.
