Are front weights needed for 620

I'm thinking of using a 3 bottom 14" 3 pt. plow with my 620. Will I need weights up front to counter balance the plow?

My Plow Operator"s manual states for transport stability on a 620 no weights are needed for the two or three bottom plows.But for a 620 with Dual front wheels and Roll-O-Matic and Four-Bottom 14-inch plow 435 Lbs. is needed. With Four-Bottom 16-inch plow they recommend 545 Lbs.

Milt, in my opinion it would be alot safer with some front weight and you might still have some occasions the front will be light. I have operated a 620 with various mounted plows and highly recomend weights.

Must be some really light sand for a 620 to pull 4-14 or 4-16. A 3-14 is all a 620 wants in gumbo.

I know what you mean about the 620 having a load with three bottoms.

We had a 630 we used a 3/16 plow on and a 4 row lister 3 pt planter and we had to put 400# of weight on it to keep the front down in tough black dirt on East KS. Plus the lister would raise the front off the ground sitting still.

yes you will need weight because a 2 cylinder JD has no engine. Just some pipes were the engine should be.

We pulled a 4-14's mounted with a 630 for about ten years in moderately heavy soils but the going was slow. 2nd gear in fall cornstalks and 3rd gear in the spring. Once we got into some dry alfalfa where we were plowing half mile rows in first gear. I have never been so bored in my life! We finally dropped a bottom and did the rest of it in 2nd gear. We had 300 lb of weight bolted to each rear wheel to keep the slippage down. Jim

WE also had four weights on the front. They kept it down OK except for the really tough pulling in soil with heavy draft. It had a tricycle front end. Jim

Our 620 did ok without weights when we was using a MF 3-14 plow but we upgraded to a OL 3-16 and had to put the loader on for weight.
