automatic fuel shut-off!

i have a jd 520 with the original auto fuel shut off. seems it has malfunctioned and i have got gas in crankcase. have any ideas on a fix?
i would like 2 keep it original but at the same time i dont want 2 have 2 worry about this again.

The fuel shut off has either 1 or 2 rubber diaphragm gaskets inside of it, you have a small hole in one of them, easy fix. Your oil pressure turns on your fuel when engine starts and turns off when engine shuts down.

I just installed a shut-off valve just down-stream of the auto-shut-off..

I always shut it off, just to be sure no fuel flows..!!

The gas got into the crankcase by getting through a diaphragm and going back down the oil pressure line and into the brankcase. Installing a shutoff between the sediment bowl and carb will not help this problem.

Remove the sediment bulb/fuel shutoff assembly from the tank. Take it apart on the workbench, making sure you keep things in order, it's not hard. Replace the diaphragms and the little rubber O ring, put it together and you're good to go. The Deere parts website has a parts blow up to guide you. Jim

The parts from John Deere are not that expensive.If you are using any ethanol in your fuel it will eat the rubber out again. At least that is what it done on my 620. You don't want to start that tractor with a crank case full of gas. I had no damage but a scare that I won't soon forget. I have since replaced the automatic shut off with a regular one and re-routed the oil line.

Ethanol will NOT eat the new diaphragms we get today. The guys around here who use ethanol in their numbered series two bangers have no more trouble with the diaphragm then the ones who don't. Should last 20+ years just like in the old days.

As far as throwing away the automatic shutoff goes, if the tank doesn't have any junk in it, the shutoff will do it's job just fine. A bit of rust or 'whatever' can get under the little O ring and prevent it from sealing, something we never used to see because the tractors were used often enough to keep the tank from rusting and sending flakes into the fuel system. Keep the tank and fuel clean like you should and you should not have problems. Jim

I'd like to have some of those diaframs, the ones that I've been getting last 3or4 months,,,I took mine out after looseing 2 oil changes, got mine from Deere,I have 4 of them here in a box that I removed.

can anyone tell me were you can buy, a diapham/fuel cut off kit, to put through my gas 720, to stop the fuel getting into the crank case oil? many thanks.
