B.F. Avery question

A couple years ago I restored a Cletrac General, aka BF Avery A. I just bought an Avery V. Both of these tractors have been shortened. The General had a foot cut from the middle, and the Avery V has had 17 inches removed. Can anyone tell me why this might have been done? I can't see any reason for it. Thanks, Rick.

A v. is allready a short tractor with 17" out there would be no room for the cultivators. I read about a fellow 20+ years ago who was shorting tractors and his explanation was just to make something differant.

My v was shortened too. The frame wasn't cut but the rear end was just slid forward. Greg PS I still don't know whether I should but back.
