B light kit?

I recently purchased a b with what appears to be a light kit. The tractor is hand start and has a john deere amp gauge with what looks to be original wiring for the battery and orginal john deere light switch. The battery hangs below the block (seems like a bad spot but looks like it might be factory built), the lights are gone but wiring is there. Is this indeed correct for the tractor and if so is that rare? The generator is gone but the pulley is there behind the fan. Serial # is 158890. All help is appreciated

It does sound like you have a "lighting kit" I looked at the parts book and it seems like that is the basics of the kit.

Could you please send photos of the install. I have a 1940 JD B ser.#81806 that I would like to install lights on it. It too is hand start. I have the parts book but cannot find the "light kit" Sam mentions. Wich I had that info. I have a loose generator and pully to put on but no clue on what the install looks like nor wiring.

I don't know how rare they are or what they are worth but I did find info and a wiring diagram for the lights only set up in the Field Service Bulletin from March 1940. There was also a starter only option as well as a set up with both shown. This appears to be a factory option and an authorized upgrade.

JD B '39 & '40 have the slant dash. This was all part of an upgrade kit. Battery fit snugly behind the slant dash. Make the operators chair a bit tight, as the dash is now close to the steering wheel. Finding all the parts to convert one is hard to find and expensive. I found most used cast iron slant dashes that fit the B, are broken. The generator is also hard to find the correct one. I have the wire schematics, that I copied from a NOS harness. It has the bigger head lights, and special brackets. Nothing easy about this conversion, so most people probably just did the min. amount of work to get light. Gen, & battery stuck on the from somewhere.
