Any one have any idea what a good price would be for a used backhoe attachment for my 850? As always thanks!

With used hoe's you get what you paid for and often quite a bit more. Like more worn out bushings, pins, leaking hoses and cracked housings etc.

If you watch ebay you can find a 713 or 723 hoe for $1-2000. The Sherman power diggers are less usually. The ones from the 40's and 50's that are made of tubes are less as they are much less of a hoe. If you don't know hoe's make sure to bring a person with a critical eye. Check for structural cracks, bushing and pin wear, evidence of grease in all the zerks and good hoses. Hoses are in the 20 to 100 each range. Pins are 50 to 100 each and can be much more. Bushings are 20 to 100 each and you need a whole big pile of them!

Last year I bought a 4140 tractor with FEL and 14' 723 hoe for 1000 + 300 delivery. It's a non-runner, but the hoe was fixed with a couple weekends of work and 5 pounds of weld wire. That was a good deal from the classifieds here.

Good luck!

Thanks John, can you recommend something less expensive than a hoe for digging small ditches for run off?

Rent a mini-excavator. Typically, $300 will get you a weekend of use and you don't need to do any maintenance, repair or hassle. And, a mini excavator will probably do as much work or more than a hoe on an 850.

Jim.Hi!, Here's a pic of the sherman power digger,It's a strong hoe but lacking reach. I made up for it by putting a remote clutch/ breke on the hoe so i can drive the tractor from the backhoe seat. I got it out of the junk behind a friends farm dealership and spent about $1500 recroming cylinders and rebushing/repacking. I wanted it because it matched the erra of the tractor.I have done a lot of work with it. I also made it to quick disconect as i don't use it often and they tie up the tractor. -ed

The term "less expensive" and Backhoe don't go together!

Sorry. A used Ford 713 or 723 or a Sherman will be about the cheapest to buy, but may require $$ to keep running.

If you have only infrequent tasks, rental as suggested, may be the deal.
