Well I have decided to bag the square coil idea. Emailed nnalert and had them delete the coil from my order. Went to NAPA yesterday and got new points, cap, rotor and 12 volt IC14SB coil. The new coil tested 3.9 - 4.0 ohms resistance so I will remove the resistor thats in place now. Made the mistake of leaving the key on overnight the other day after my rear axle nut fiasco. Wouldnt start the next day. I think I burned up the points. My key switch was in bad shape so I ordered a new one. Cap & rotor were pretty bad shape too. Thanks to all for your valued input..

You are welcome & you will appreciate the decision you made as time goes by.

I don't see where anyone mentioned it but if you were doing a true restoration on your tractor then of course you would use a square can coil.
If you are doing like many of us here and are sprucing up your tractor for actual use then a modern/better electrical system will be more trouble free down the road.
Welcome to the board by the way. This is the best place on the internet to find a lively give and take on these great little tractors.
Yours was a thought provoking thread...
I was actually surprised to see some of the names here who came out for leaving your modified/roundcan coil as it is.
They usually present the argument that the old stuff is entirely adequate. And I must grant that it is. But gutting the coil and adding a new one is modern/better and therefore incongruous with the rest of their teachings.

LOL
So what did you get for your girl today?
Bought mine a couple of roses from the grocery store. Wasn't a lot but they say it's the thought that counts.
