Broke the long spike on my bale spear. It is a Westendorf if that makes a difference. Where do you guys order your replacements?
There are several spear mount types, they are not all the same. You need to find out what style mount your Westendorf is.Broke the long spike on my bale spear. It is a Westendorf if that makes a difference. Where do you guys order your replacements?
I have one for my John Deere 640 loader that has never been used, nor will it ever be by me at least. I don't know if it would work for you but I would never miss it if you came and stole it. I'd even show you where it is. (-:Broke the long spike on my bale spear. It is a Westendorf if that makes a difference. Where do you guys order your replacements?
My neighbor keeps two on hand ordered from Agri Supply. He needs them on hand as he breaks them often and can't wait when he's picking up bales. My thought is,,if your breaking them often you need to try a different supplier. I bought spear used and I have handled couple thousand bales and this is the first one I broke. The guy I bought it from said spike was original Westendorf. Which leads me to another question. What is typical number of bales handled before breaking?I have bought a couple from a place called AGRI Supply when I made my own spear set up. Check the chart above to get the correct size.
I don't know that there is a typical number of bales handled that relates to when a spear will fail. That is dependent on several things bale weight, spear length and capacity rating, how much pounding the spear gets with a bale bouncing on it (rough ground travel) and spear quality. Lifting bales that are frozen down in the winter can put excessive strain on a spear. You can get spears with different weight ratings for a given mount size.My neighbor keeps two on hand ordered from Agri Supply. I have handled tens of thousands of bales and have never broken a spear. My neighbor regularly bends his cheapo tractor supply spears but I suppose that is to be expected. My neighbor keeps two on hand ordered from Agri Supply.
