For the most part there are two types of goods coming out of China: those that are western designs that are produced under tight western supervision; and those designed and made under Chinese businesses' design and supervision.

I don’t disagree, and the latter can still be somewhat suspect.

Make that three types. The third being a direct copy of the western design built at a different plant and sold at half the price.
You can only really blame the manufacturers that went over there way back when.

this is what I was referring to under Chinese design and supervision. They rarely get plans for these copies they have to make up their own designs by copying a finished product.

I was looking at a heavy haul trailer from China. It was a direct copy of a Goldhofer trailer, so much so they claim I’m could be repaired with Goldhofer parts. I went and looked at one here in the States, the quality was good. They were less than half the cost of a comparable Goldhofer trailer. Only thing that killed the deal was they wanted 1/4 the money before they started building it, 1/4 when it shipped and the remainder when arrived in port in the US. I wasn’t willing to send 1/2 the money before the trailer hit the port and they weren’t willing to ship until they got 1/2 payment. I don’t trust them and I don’t know what recourse I’d have if the deal went bad.

Friend of mine is an auctioneer and he has gotten into buying those container loads of Chinese stuff and auctioning it off. Mini-ex, mini-skids, golf carts, and such. They send him the full container without any money up front, he auctions it off, and he sends them the money it brings (minus his commission).
