I need a good way to eliminate carpenter bees. They hover around by the hundreds now. humming and buzzing and drilling numerous 1/2 inch diameter holes all over, mostly in the board and batten siding(unpainted white pine). My dog nips at them and they seem generally slow but to many to swat at.

I recommend Raid or any other commercial bug death that you"ll find in your average hardware store. If you wait untill the evening most of the bees will be home as it gets darker and cooler. That"s the time to nail them. Ditto for early morning.

I use a combination of a fly swatter, wifes kitchen broom and shop vac to rid my place of wasps. You have to be brave(and quick) but it works. My son (less brave) Was stung last summer while reading the lable on a can of wasp spray. After that he joined me with the fly swatter etc. Dave

Tennis racket works really well. Makes minced Bees. Sevin dust in and around the holes will stop them as well. Home Depot/Lowes carry stuff for termites/carpenter bees. If it kills termites, it'll kill carpenter bees.

Fluff some Sevin Dust in any holes you can get to and a couple days later fill it up with caulking. After they're dead, new ones will come back. They'd much rather use a ready made home vs. make their own.

A can of brake clean kills them dead on contact and no mess. I do me on cotact there dead !!!!!

I meant to add this last time here in south GA not only are the bees a big problem but so are the woodpeckers that eat the larva in the nest. last year the large woodpeckers ( about 10 to 12 inches tall) like to have destroyed my place up getting to the larva, before I realized what was going on.
I guess the one good thing I have seen a lot less bees this year. The picture also Questions the statement that painting the wood helps deter the bees.

Most bees go to bed in the evening....watch to see if they do...then use a good calking....fill the holes and smooth them over, ready to paint.....

Maybe someone on the ground with a good flashlite...Don

Have swatted about 30-some in about a week with a badminton racket. Much lighter that tennis and have done well with backhand strokes. They have swarmed all around me without any attacks. Yesterday I mixed some orthene and water in a 1 gallon pump sprayer. Sprayed some holes and some came out pretty quick. The flying ones that got sprayed were noticeably ill.
