barnyard - plow classes

What exactly are these classes supposed to be for? I was under the assumption they were for stock tractors that haven't been "tinkered" with, straight out of the field, washing is optional. Most of the pulls I have been to you see tractors with pulling hitches, weight brackets, etc fabricated on them in these classes. The rules say "you can only use stock parts. How many antique '59 and older tractors came with factory weight brackets for suitcase weights? If they tell you its for safety to keep the front end from coming up to high, how did they ever farm with these tractors? Wouldn't it be just as easy to fabricate some wheelie bars as it woulde be to make weight brackets? To me, if you have your hitch jacked up to 20" and need to have a rack full of weights on the front to keep it down, then you need to be in the weighted classes. I know I'm probably just whineing, but what good is it to have rules that are meanless? Thanks for letting me vent.

the pulling club i belong too just finially started enforceing their rules on hitch heights and engine rpm's. seems they had too many people complaining about rules not beeing enforced.

And just how many farm tractors you ever seen that havent been "tinkered with"
If you got a super M, with a simple rebuild it can be a 450. Alot of them are that way, most guys did it just to use, before anybody wanted to drag it to town to pull.
Its no different then having a 4640 john deere cranking out 220 horse, to use in the field.
Tractor supply offered a 3 point hitch for about anything. You ever seen 2 or 3 wheelweights tied to the front of a culivator bracket on a tractor. Now those dont look very nice, but if you wanna go to town and pull it, why not build a bracket to hang weights on that look nice.
However most of the time the rules are in place, there just isnt anybody to inforce them. These smaller unsanctioned pulls are getting so hard to have and get people to come to, that they usually turn into a pull that if you brought it you can pull it cause they need your entry fee just to brake even. So they dont wanna tell somebody you cant pull. If you cant go to town and have fun on your old tractor, maybe you should just stay home. After all you really cant pull an antique tractor for the money. But at the same time if there going to have rules they need to be inforced and put on the flier so everybody knows the rules. Barnyard pulls are fun but its like comparing apples to oranges there all different.
