Bat-wing problem solved!

First of all, thank you to everyone who gave me thier opinion and help. That"s what makes this forum so good. Since my last post was so big, (Thanks to alot of you guys reponding), I thought it would be easier just to give the details in a new one. Here is the jist of it:

1. Woods makes every piece of the mower except for the driveline.
2. The driveline is contracted to meet specs to a Canadian company.
3. Although it is not publicized, Woods is having trouble with the 540 drivelines with higher horsepower tractors because the shafts are too soft. The 1,000 rpm shafts have not had any problems.
4. Woods is sending a complete oversized shaft with yolks free of charge to the dealer who sold the mower to replace the twisted one.

It is nice to see an American company that still cares and stands behind what they make. So keep in mind if you are buying a new Woods batwing with a 540 shaft and have this problem, Woods will fix it because the shafts are too soft.

They wouldn't fix mine when the dual rear wheels broke off. They had an upgrade to fix it,but i had to buy it.When that big rod broke that goes from the front of the hitch to the rear wheels broke they said that wasn't under there warranty coverage. The mower was under 6 months old.I like there smaller 3 point mowers, but i'll never buy another bat wing from them. You might think your problems solved until the two shafted gear box goes out.

Maybe they should have stayed with American-made parts. Sometimes globalism bites you in the tail. And no, I'm not interested in getting into some big America vs. Canada discussion.

My Woods 10 foot rotary is a toy compared with my much older John Deere 1008 (10 foot). I've had spindle, seal, gear, bearing and gearbox problems with the Woods. We use the the Woods lightly and still problems and when it's down we bring out the old John Deere. Definitely should have bought the Deere rotary not the Woods.

We have a 3180 1000 rpm batwing and after getting it a few years back found it to be a poor replacement for the 2615 Bush Hog we had before. The pto shaft has been an unending source of grief, primarily the tractor end yoke. They use a staked in pin which in my opinion is a joke, after losing the pin a few times and coming unhooked it took out the shaft on the tractor. The laminated wheels are too small get hung up in any little bit of a ditch and bend the wheel mounting frames especially on the wings. Soon as we get the wing hinge fixed on it it will be going down the road as we bought a 2715 Bush Hog to replace it. Much happier with the 2715 it is nice to have a real mower again after that woods toy mower. If you are thinking of buying a woods do yourself a favor and don't.

This will be thier one and only chance to get this right. If I have another problem then we agreed it will go down the road for a Deere or a Rhino. Thats why we opted to buy the Heavy Duty modle mower because we thought it would be overkill for mowing 2 foot tall weeds and cornstalks and for the lighter use we would be doing, all the little problems from light use wouldn"t be a constant issue. I guess we will see. We allready own it, so I gotta at least give it a shot before I loose money on a trade in.
