Battery charger

Who makes the best battery charger the kind with 2 wheels that charges 6 and 12 volt? Is Napa any good? Thanks and God Bless

If you want a total battery charger/tester the Midtronics DCA 8000 will do AGM and everything else but it is a smart charger and runs around 6 thousand bucks.

For that money he could buy a couple batteries and charge them on a tractor to keep them charged or use a maintainer for them.
He was asking about the best battery charger. The DCA 8000 is probably one of the best but it comes at a cost. Depends if he wants a good battery charger or if he wants a high end one that wil do everything. I still think Associated is probably the best you will find without a 6k pricetag.

This is a good place to narrow it down.

are old Napa analog charger died so we got a smart charger and it said “battery is to dead to charge” IS THAT NOT WHY I PUT YOU ON THERE so anyways we got a associated charger and it’s a lot better

The newer “smart” charger may not charge a battery that is completely dead. For those batteries, you have to charge them awhile with a “dumb” ( older) charger and you need at least a couple of volts in the battery before the smart charger decides it will charge it.
IMO, the best wheeled chargers are the older ones that have real copper wiring and you pick them up on a garage sale for a couple of bucks.
They don’t have wheels, but the best battery charger to top off a battery are the small box chargers that you hook up for a long period of time because they only put out 1-2 amps.

I like this charger the best I've ever owned.

DEWALT DXAEC100 Professional 30-Amp Battery Charger and 3-Amp Maintainer with 100-Amp Engine Start

I've found if a DeWalt smart charger won't work on a battery with zero volts there's a good chance the battery is dead on arrival and no manual changer will jump start it back to life.

I don't have any 6 v batteries
55 years ago I bought this manual charger. I totally rebuilt it after everything inside went up in smoke except for the transformer.
I put a switch on the left side so I can use one or two diodes. The dimmer switch on the right allows me to vary the charging voltage from zero to 15.5 volts. I can charge small batteries by adjusting the charging voltage.
I recently tried charging a 12v battery with zero volts. The battery did not recover.

I've heard that you can trick them into starting with a 9-volt battery.

My favorite brand i use mostly for RV applications is Progressive Dynamics (So called Smart Chargers) suited for whatever battery chemistry be it Flooded Lead Acid or AGM or Lithium Iron Phosphate

My friend has a NAPA like the one you're describing I think. It's probably 15 years old and still works for him.

The charger at the antique shop would be best. The modern so called smart chargers I would avoid like the plague. If you really need to charge a battery they won't do it, it will say the battery is sulfated and turn itself off. Put a battery maintainer on the battery for about six hours and then put it on the smart charger and the battery is perfectly fine and it will charge. By the time you do all of that you are doing a different project.
