Battery for 464 IH gas tractor

Need to know what is the correct battery. For my 464 gas tractor Cold cranking amps? Parts book list a Prestolite 2226X 12v Battery. Can't find any info. About the prestolite battery. Thanks Dave F.

The biggest one you can get in there. I have a group 31 in my 424 gas. Around 1,000 amps and it spins the little 3 cylinder really good.

Here's a chart of the BCI Group dimensions of common batteries.

The first 2 numbers are the case dimensions less the posts. The suffix letter is the post orientation.

Once you narrow down the dimensions, then start searching with the letter suffix to determine where you want the posts.

Your 424 is 3 cylinder? I thought they all had the C146 gas engine that is 4 cylinder. Or a diesel.

I think the diesel is a 3 cylinder. Biggest battery that will fit in the box or just go to the Grp 31's with the stud on top. Less fooling around with bad connections on battery cable ends.

I have an IH 464 industrial tractor 4 cyl gas,a 650 CCA battery starts it fine.
