bead breaker

Anyone ever use this type of bead breaker? It's made by AME. Thinking of getting one to help with tractor tires. Thought this might make it easier than using a tire sledge or slide hammer type bead breaker.

I have the Australia version. Works good. I miss used it once on a rusted on 24 ply airplane tire with an impact wrench and broke the clamping feet. Been welded and used many times since.

We bought the on that the other mailorder tractor parts company has, and we do like it, and it has held up good. It is less labor taxing than the alternatives. Ours was over $100 so we held off buying one for a long time, know that we have one, wish we had boght it sooner.

I do appreciate all the feedback, I think I will go ahead and order one today from Northern tools. I do the backhoe thing to break the bead on larger tires but I thought this would make it easier to break the bead and change a tube without taking the tire off the tractor.

I bought a similar one from Gempler's and it was a piece of junk. I agree with the backhoe. I have used the bucket to break down a tires and left the rim on the tractor. It takes less than a minute

(quoted from post at 09:08:16 04/11/14) If you have a backhoe, save your money. Use the stabilizer to break the bead.

ok, that's good enough for me. yet another reason why i need a backhoe :)

I have one and have used it many times. They state not to use an impact. It worked best as you tighten it on the rime to beat it in as far as you can to get the best results. If the tires are junk, it would be best to cut them off. If not, get some GOOD soap taking them off and on.

I'm in "Classic view" so I might be missing what your needing the backhoe for, but before using a backhoe to break tire beads, couldn't you just drive a truck over the edges of the deflated tire? I've done some very difficult rims with the weight of a heavy tractor or truck?

I bought a bead breaker. It was on the discout shelve at Harbor Freight. It is operated by a proto power. Great !! Sure beats bars.
