bearing quality

I am replacing the bearings on my flail mower blade drum. It is a standard flange self aligning type bearing. I found the same bearing on EBAY, but it is made by a company called JIB made in China. Any one had any dealings with this bearing co.? I don't think many bearings are made in the US anymore. The price is about 1/3 the price from the local bearing supplier.Stan

Never ever skimp on bearing quality if it cost a lot less then its most likely not as good and will fail causing more damage. It not worth it. I have always bought Timken when ever possible.

If it fails and you will just replace it - fine - your money, your time. If it fails and something goes into orbit or it destroys other parts, it"s not only your time, and money, for replacing just the bearing. Generally you get what you pay for (or less). Not too often you get some extras or something for nothing when buying. Your call. RAB

Chief, You must remember when if something was marked "made in Japan" or "made in West Germany" it meant inferior quality. Where ever it comes from it will improve or stop coming.

That is a good point to consider. If you are old enough you can rember the wrenches that came from Japan in the early 60's. They defenatly improved the tool quality sinced those days. stan

What I heard is that if a company like Walmart wants something cheap, China makes it cheap. If another company wants that product but asks for better quality, They get a better product at a slighty higher price.
Which sounds like the old adage "You get what you pay for".

Well, for what it's worth, I bought a bearing the other day..Federal Mogul brand....that's an old line company. Made in Poland. Can the Poles makes good bearings? Sure. Most anybody can...doesn't mean they always do. The Chinks build certain items that require high quality...(ie., the best quality) like say, the bearings used in jet engines that they manufacture. They can do it....just doesn't mean they are selling them to us....yet. Would I rather they were made here? DUH! Of course I would. The US makers have fled the country in pursuit of cheap labor. Have Wong Dong make it and stamp their name on it. We end up using them because that is all there is to buy.
