Just wanted to know what beef is going for per pound around the country. Just sold some cows and only got 60 cents a pound for them. They were grass and hay feed! I would have kept them if I knew that. Oh well J

I heard that beef was going to drop some come may / june, one of the farmers told me he was talking to some buyers a few months ago,a nd they saidd the yards were getting full up down south,,
I was on the other end of the stick I wanted to buy some to restock the pastures and was told to wait,,

I am usually on the other end though,, probably will be agin [always] buy high sell low,, I sort of get used to it,, good luck pat

our local auction mart Manitoba Canada May 15,2008 is D1 and D2 cows .38-.49 D3 and D4 .20-.35, steers 600 lbs-700 is .84-1.08, hiefers 600-700 lbs .80-.97 , cow/calf pairs $500.-$975. ,Bulls .45-.66 ,that is an example of our livestock prices.

Were they old? I would be disappointed in $.60/lb too, but maybe they went for the going canner price.

Why did you sell them now? If it looks like Summer pasture is going to be in short supply and hay will be high, maybe other cattle producers are cutting back on the size of their herds. A large volume of cows at one time is likely to bring the price down.

When I was a kid, my Dad usually bought some feeders at the stockyards every Spring and sometimes would bring home a cow or two if he found some that he thought were good deals. We sold some of the much bigger feeder steers in late Fall, but my Dad found that he came out better selling them by the half, butchered on our ranch. The cows either stayed for a few years if they had good calves, or else they got to go back to the stockyards.

I still would be disappointed in $.60/lb! You might want to check on the prices before you haul any in in the future. I think I would be eating a lot of hamburger rather than selling for $.60/lb.

No, the cow was a 3 year old herifer. Ya I guess she was too fat 1350 pounds. The 2 steers were a year and a half old they brought $70 cwt.
