Belaruse PTO

Another thought. Maybe the 540/100 RPM fork jumped to neutral. This is the shifter that you turn from underneath the tractor.

1: The spring on the linkage that keeps it overcentre and in the engaged position has fell off. (At rear of tractor on pto linkage)
2: the engine/ground speed lever (under seat 22mm spanner fits it) has gone to N
3: As mentioned the 540/1000 control (under tractor) has gone to N
4: Circlip (snap ring) holding stubshaft has failed releasing the drive rollers. (make new from M10 8.8 grade bolt shank, cut to 20mm long and use locally available circlip)

1. The linkage fills good and goes over center.
2. If this is the problem will the tractor pull and drive OK other than PTO works good.
3. Will look at this.
4 Where is this located and how do I get to it?
I have 850 hrs on the tractor and have very little knowledge of it.
Thanks for taking time for your help.
Joe

linkage looks OK
540/1000 in 540 OK
Cir Clip and pins OK
I removed seat and large plate I did not see the ground speed lever. where is it located in relation to the Hyd detent linkage on L/H side
Thanks Joe

The engine/ground speed pto is no more than a cranked bar with a 22mm hex on the end for a spanner. It will be slightly forward and to the left of the valve for the linkage lift ram. Some tractors even had them extended up through the cab floor.

Can you turn the pto by hand from the rear with the engine shut off and:
1: the engagement lever disengaged
2: the engagement lever engaged

No I cant turn the PTO engaged or disengaged,
I took the small cover off on top and to the back of the tractor just fwd of the 3 point clevis.
Their is two thumb screws that I thank adjust the bands, the aft is loose and you can move it with a lot of play. Can the band brake? If so do you have to pull the PTO unite from the back of the tractor if so are their any tricks or just unbolt and slide out. I do appreciate you taking time to help with this problem Joe

The 2 'thumb' scews do adjust the band.
You cannot rotate the pto stubshaft with the lever engaged so the 54/1000 AND the engine/groundspeed are ENGAGED or you would be able to turn the shaft.
What you did not say is that there was a locking plate and 2 split cotter pins or a lock wire between those two thumb screws to stop them winding off.(and they do)
The rear screw adjusts the engagement band, the front the brake.
Lever disengaged, front band tight, rear band slack
Lever engaged. front band slack, rear band tight.
Adjust rear screw so the lever in the cab is about 1 to 1 1/2 inch from the back of the slot in the console when engaged.
Slowly disengaging the lever (best with an assistant) you should (just) feel a point where you can just turn the stubshaft before the lever is full disengaged, as the engagement band slacks off and the brake band tightens. Just so they are never both engaged at the same time. Wire the screws together so they dont slacken off.
If you have to pull the clutch:
Drain the tranny oil from the rear plug.
Take the thumb screws out completly.
Remove pto shield
Remove bolts around the pto casting at the back, 4 M16 fine thread nuts + some bolts about M10 or 12 and a couple go up from underneath. There are some 'slave' bolt threaded holes and the unit comes straight out the back, not too heavy, I could manage them on my own no problem.
If the rear band looks worn out, swap it for the front band, they never wear. Use instat gasket, Locktite 515 or similar but leave the remains of the old gasket on, just clean it up with petrol or bake clean. When refitting just 'feel' the front carrier bearing in before tightening every thing up. Rear pto seal is standard metric and will have the size marked on it but there should be no need to disturb it. then adjust.
The over centre spring I used to tighten up so the guy had to really pull on the lever to engage the pto to get a good clamp load on the band.
Never seen a band broke, but there is a first time for everything, but had to adjust heaps of them.

The thumb screws were not safety with wire are a locking plate, the rear one way loose but did not try to tighten up,I will try that before I take it apart. Will work on it this PM, Thanks for the help
Joe
