Belzona epoxy

Anybody ever used Belzona epoxy? It's some super expensive stuff, about $600 for a container, maybe a quart of it.
The fan broke on one of my Oliver 66s and went in to the radiator. It wrecked about 8 tubes. My boy thought he could braze or solder the rad, but wasn't having much luck so he said he'd try that stuff on it. He's had it for a year and hasn't used it for much of anything but patching engine blocks. It takes 12 hours to cure, so it'll be tomorrow before I fill it up to see if it's gonna leak.

He said the salesman told him they use it on ships. I said maybe I'll have to use salt water in it instead of antifreeze then. I hope we didn't waste our time smearing it on there.

Belzona, and similar products, are widely used in industrial maintenance. We used some products for build up of shafts and such and can be machined once cured and some were coatings. Proper surface preparation is key to how well they preform. It will be interesting to see how it works on your radiator tubes.

Never heard of it before, but with those 2 glowing reviews, maybe I'd best try to remember this stuff. $600 could end up being pretty cheap compared to other alternatives.

Thanks Randy!

I didn't buy it, my son had it at his machine shop. We used very little to patch up 8 tubes. If I'd have had to buy it just for that, I would have gone with a different radiator.

I told my son that if we had any left over, he needed to use it to patch up his GMC pickup. He said it would last until that stuff was all that was left floating down the road. LOL

There are numerous blends of Belzona , particular to the job at hand .
The power generation industry uses Belzona to rebuild worn pump bowls instead of welding in metal . Lasts longer, takes less time and costs less than welding in metal .
Replace the rad instead of some cob job farmer fix .

It hardened alright, but when I started it up and put water in it this morning it leaked. I had a tube of Alumaseal in the toolbox, put that in it and let it run for half an hour. That sealed it up. Good enough for who it's for as they say.

Once Belzona hardens it can be drilled and tapped just like the original steel. The Miter Gates (gates that let the barges in and out) at the RC Byrd locks at Pt. Pleasant WV are held up by a bed oc Belzona. I have a set of it and use it once in awhile and it has never failed me. I've ahd it since 2000 and like I said it has never failed me. If he would remove the radiator and follow the cores that are leaking to the top and bottom tanks, heat the solder and remove the cores then solder the hole where the cores were it will work just fine. I've never had any luck doing anything with the cores at the broken point. Good luck wit the Belzona Keith
