Big B Blocks

What do you pullers think about the big John Deere Block? Should it be allowed or not. After all if they can do it everyone should be allowed to run a homemade block.

It's not just the Deere's that run aftermarket blocks, Molines are using them as well. You might get different opinions on "homemade" or one of a kind vs. a production casting available across the counter to anyone willing to shell out the coin for them. I say let-um run as long as it's a production item available to the general public. My $0.02 worth. Mike

Where do ya want to "draw a line"..??

Any given brand pulling has over Double the original cubic inches over stock..
Do you Want to BAN every bored block, ALL stroking, ALL Mods to the tractor..even all the ALUMINUM parts now used to alter the weight bias..??
People bragged for years about how the JD was antiquated and not up to the task.
Now, a few have leveled the playing field and now comes the cries of "Foul" again..!!!
Of Course they Should be allowed..!!!
If you can pull a 450 cu in AC or Farmal "H", then the JD should allowed just as many Cu In..!!

Ron..

i agree with mike or go with factory no more than 125 over or whatever you can get off the shelf for that particular tractor but then you run into how do you know

MMM well I try to pull but the cost of getting to the 400 cubic inch tractor really hurts a poor boy like me. I know what they all run the Jd,s FarM Ol88,s MinMo,S. Man I just can't aford it Im depressed just thinking about it! I can hardley keep my trailer in shape.

Well said,Speed limits take care of excessive Horse Power,Thats why there are different class's and different speed limits.

Twenty years ago it was allot different. Today, the capability and the amount of money people are willing to spend on this hobby is unending. I do not think these kind of parts belong in Division 1 or II stock type classes, but how can you police it fairly? After pulling amongst all the altered tractors with custom and home made parts for many years here is my take on it. Pick/pull in the class that the "speed" limit best fits your tractors capability and be fair to everybody. Enforce weight, speed, RPM, hitch, and safety rules to the limits of the very word and let everybody have the same advantage. The key to keeping the majority happy is have/offer enough speed classes to please them. If people want to pull there 100 HP tractor against my B John Deere in the 3.5 or 4.0 class so be it, wouldn't be the first time I got beat and vise versa. (Really tickles me to beat a big one!) The single rule that would greatly help to keep the majority of tractors in the classes where they belong is only let any one tractor pull in one division. Now let see who the chickin$hit is! The last comment that some will not like to hear is: If you are not in the majority your just SOL. There are clubs that do have successful Division type II classes and believe me the numbers of tractors in those classes are the majority. Most people would probably get sick of watching that many at any one event but who cares they are enjoying themselves and it works for there club. That’s really what matters! As always, MHO DW

Its a power block, no different than a TSC block. If you dont allow them, people will just resleeve a stock block. If someone wants the big bore, they will have the big bore...only question is will they do it the easy way or hard way.

"Everyone" else cant run an aftermarket block because most rules state "stock crankcase". JD and MM use the stock crankcase while using the aftermarket blocks.

Good questions and good discussion... I personally don't think that the blocks should be run in division I or II.

The Deeres are a little unique in that you can't just take a motor out of something and put in something else. Is the deck height the same for each of the below combinations? (I don't know). Most places require the deck height to remain unchanged.

Is it ok to put an 88 block in a 77?
How about a 320 Waukesha in an 88?
Gleaner in a AC?
MM jugs/heads/cranks - can't even tell you what combinations go there.
Farmalls - 153 Combine motor in a Super C - isn't that about 50% more cubes than it started with

I'm not sure I'd call it a "homemade" block as they are cast in a foundry, CNC machined, and are very similar to a "Power Block". Should someone be allowed to take a couple pieces of plate, weld some tubing to it and fab a water jacket? That sounds homemade.

Agreed, a 400-450 inch B isn't in everyone's budget, but it sure is fun to drive
