block clearance pics

(quoted from post at 02:30:27 06/11/13) has anyone got pics of the inside of a D-17 block
that has been clearanced for a BIG stroke in the
crankshaft?

The key is the crankpin diameter, connecting rod profile and cap angle. With straight cap rods you need to do a lot of work to the block to get even 6" stroke in.

My billet rods clear at a 6" stroke with only notching the bottoms of the sleves, virtually no block work. And I keep a 2" diameter crankpin. At 6 1/2" stroke it takes just a little notching by the oil pan rail. Much more and the cap angle has to get changed to clear the cam.

I do some setups with a Farmall H rod, but it's to much work to cut and clearance the rods, then get them past the cam etc. The billets are easy, and in the end you get a H-series bearing, things fit and the rod is much stronger than a junk yard forged rod.

The Murphys rods are maybe even a little thinner on the cap and the angle may be just slightly different, I don't know but they possiably clear a little better. Just buy a set of billets from someone who knows what they are doing up front.

I'm busy in the fields right now but I've got a 6 and 6.5 setup pictures for you sometime when I get a chance to find them and post.

Thanks Guys!! I am just about $$$ ready to send things off to begin my build, I was just wondering what things were gonna look like on the inside.

It does not matter, Wi50. You may have read that Pankey is on the Unofficial Allis forum bragging off his building a motor for Little Sweeper, by name. Little Sweepers hard earned $$ is about to become another 3 months worth of good humor on the internet.

I would sooner trust autozone to do my build than a guy who has only talked about building engines but it's your money. Be sure to let us know how it goes. If it gets past 5 runs it is better than the only other one he has touched.

little sweeper its in the archives where you asked this question in 2010 . I showed you what we where doing then . Three years latter I shown you where we are at now . All the other guys aren"t showing anything leaving it a surprise as to what you will get or the fact they are ashamed to show work. If you want 426 to 466 inches come see us. jmho

just to let ya"ll know, I have never spoken to mlpankey (unless I met him at Tunica and did not know I was tlaking to him) or wi50. I have a WC that has a D-17 in it and I have full cut tires (because daddy give "em to me) so I pull in modified class in the back of the pack. If I ecver pull against any of you and your distance is behind me--you evidently had something break. I thought I was going to build a BIG motor last year, but life got in the way AGAIN. I have been talking to a builder and feel pretty confident my money is going in the right direction. When I get it built, I will not be one of those that trys to hide anything, I am a firm believer that if you get in the ring with the big boys, run it hard and if you get beat, go home and tune on it some more. I have almost finished swapping a B wishbone wide front on and loosing some weight, will post pics when I am done with that part. Thanks again for the pics!!!

Well, thats cool. BUT, Pankey mentioned doing work for "sweeper" on the unofficial allis pulling forum. Here you go asking a question that feeds his absured ego. He then presents pics of different junk that he bought and ruined. Wether its on purpose, or complete coincidence, it looks kinda bad. Do you see what I mean?
