I am in Pensacola this week and today is the full dress rehearsal for the Blue Angels air show. As I write this I am watching them fly overhead. I have seen them several times and it never gets old.

I love the smell of jet fuel in the afternoon.

Huzzah.

I was flying northbound to Chicago O'Hare one afternoon and somewhere west of St Louis I spotted something a long ways off that was just a dot. I kept watching it get closer and finally when it was only about 10 miles away ATC reported traffic to us. At that time it became evident that the dot was more than one airplane. As they passed directly overhead I could see that it was the Blue Angels all gathered up on a tanker refueling. Apparently they had performed at an air show somewhere in the northwest and were on their way home to Pensacola and they needed a drink of kerosene to make it non-stop. It was an awesome sight but I still prefer the Thunderbirds.

they are here in Seattle every August for a show.

Yep, I've seen them at air shows & they are just awesome. As are the Thunderbirds. But, I did see a formation of SNJ's at an airshow here in Richmond about 10 years ago that was equally as impressive. They reminded me of the Skyraiders (aka "Spads") that flew close air support for us in V-N. Those guys had a loiter time measured in hours! The fast-movers would make one maybe two passes & be out of ordinance.

I live just a few miles from Pensacola NAS. The pactice on Wed. Never gets old.

I was stationed at Whiting Field in Milton in the late '60's. There was an air show and the main attraction were the Angels. Watching them land on a strip designed for T-28's was a sight; darned near pulled their chutes before they were on the ground.
Had beers with their flight crew the night before the show at the EM club....one partying group of sailors.
It was a great weekend.

I stop for fuel occasionally at LZZ. What do you operate over there awhtx? (I'm over at Spicewood area. Flying X River ranch)

In my other life, I had an office that faced the runway at Boeing Field in Seattle. Every August, during Seafair, the Blue Angels came to town and were based at Boeing field. I got to see a lot of their practices and formation take offs, etc. They parked near the Museum of Flight and many people don't get to see their preflight walk out to the aircraft or the post flight routines when they land but they are just as neat as the show itself.
