Blue streak points

Where the heck can I get a set of Blue Streak points and condenser for my 8N? I've called Napa, Advance, O'Reilly, and Auto Zone and none of them could get Blue Streak brand.

One genius on the phone said he couldn't even look that up until I gave him the engine displacement ! Like that's running around in my brain !

So, where can I order them?

I see Blue Streak point sets online but the are listed for motorcycles. I see other points and condenser kits on Amazon but they don't even list what they will fit. What's up with that ?????

Someone must know where to get these for a Ford 8N.

''Blue Streak'' is/was the premium parts line sold by Standard Ignition.

ANY auto parts store that sells Standard Ignition parts can get them IF that particular number is still available.

The ''Blue Streak'' number is simply the Standard Ignition part number with an ''X'' added at the end.

On the other hand, adding a 'T' suffix gets you their ''TruTech'' brand of ''economy parts.

Front-mount: FD-6769X

Side-mount: FD-8081XV ( The ''V'' means ''ventilated'', the stationary point has a hole in it.)

Too much screwin' around. I gave up and ordered Echlin points. I think one has to have top secret clearance to get Blue Streak anything. Four auto parts stores could not get what I wanted.

BWD is a brand from Standard. I have run sets for many years, and have only had to clean and reset a couple
of times. O'reillys sells them. I have the # for 9n/2n and 8n front mount dist.,but not for 8n side mount
dist.

I got several sets of FD-8081XV from ebay new old stock a couple of years ago. Should have gotten more, only have one set left. You can usually find them there. Also the points for front mount. You have to make sure the listing shows a picture of the actual points, not some other thing that 'replaces' that number.

Front or side mount distributor, you did not say.

Guessing yours is a side mount. Along with what wore out posted, Standard does not make Blue Streak as an option for everything, and they are dropping some, so the Blue Streak level availability is getting less. In this case Standard no longer makes Blue Streak points for the side mount, so no more FD8081X (or XV) points from Standard. So don't blame the parts guys. The Standard Motor Products part number for the side mount points is FD8081T. Standard makes Echlin for NAPA (as well as BWD and some others) so basically you got Standard Products points. To get the Blue Streak level you need to find NOS, as deanostoybox does.

Kinda related to the thread on YT shipping...

All States Ag via their Amazon storefront sells blue streak points.

https://www.amazon.com/All-States-Tune-up-Premium-APN12000ABSR/dp/B0BLHCHHQD/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=8n+points&m=ATJ8F4FBWQ4V&qid=1678062750&s=merchant-items&sr=1-3&ufe=app_do%3Aamzn1.fos.18ed3cb5-28d5-4975-8bc7-93deae8f9840

I am using the online SMP catalog, and it does not show a Blue Streak option for the FD8081 point set, only the FD8081T. Entering FD8081 takes you to the FD8081T. Adding the X or XV comes up as nothing found. If I enter DR2227P for points I use in Delco distributors the catalog me the option of the Blue Streak grade (P suffix) or the trade grade (PT suffix). If the Blue Streak was still being made, I would expect to see that option for the FD8081 as well as just the trade grade. Front mount distributor points, FD6769X, show as only available as Blue Streak grade, no T option. Great if those places have the FD8081 Blue Streak grade, but I would wonder about it, or they have some remaining stock on hand. Just saying what I am seeing in Standard's catalog.

Front or Angle (Side Mount) Distributor? The Blue Streak points for the front mount are p/n FD-6769X. NAPA should stock them. I've seen NOS on ebay, avg price should be
about $16, any more and they are ripoffs. ECHLIN, p/n CS-35, used to be good but are now junk -cant be gapped right. Can also try TISCO AT6KFF or CNH 87744524.

What's the red fuzzy looking thing in the picture?

The red fuzzy thing is a felt wiper that is impregnated with a silicon based distributor cam lubricant. Standard motor products SL-2 is what you are supposed to use if the wiper is dried out. As they came back in the day, you would just clean the distributor cam and intall the points. That wiper would take care of the lubrication. It prevented the problem of folks using too much lube which could contaminate the contacts, or not using any which could cause premature wear of the rubbing block.

Thank You !

The problem you're having buying Blue Streak points is that your tractor is old, Blue Streak is an older brand name, most of us on this board are old, and the people you're trying to buy parts from are young and don't know about old parts and tractors.

I would expect their computer systems would be able to tell them youngins' what they need to know. As I said before, one guy I spoke to on the phone said he needed to know the engine displacement before he could even look anything up. I've had that tractor for over 20 years and even I don't have that piece of info rattling around in my head.
