Bombardier Tracks

Since the bombardier tracks are pretty uncommon nowadays
have people been building their own?
Couldn"t skid loader tracks be used?
The bombardier design doesn"t seem that horribly complex.
And while I"m here does anyone have stories and/or pictures
about ford N series being fully converted to a track system (as
in a real metal track system) maybe even a roadless
conversion. I know fordson tractors had alot of those.
Just picking everyone"s knowledge on this.

I was just curious of what oddities and "farmer creations" were
out there. Just thinking of how a person could come up with
such things. I don't really have any need or capacity to build
such things.

Are the Bombardier tracks the ones using cleats attached to belting? I currently run Arrps (sp) that are constructed completely of steel cleats and steel links.I believe Blackhawk is the name associated with Arrps. The all steel configuration had an idler that was attached to the rear axle. My dad purchased a set in the mid 50s. He made modifications to the system. He removed the idler and simply wrapped the tracks around the rear tire. This gives a better steering option, but loses the floatation aspect. Second modification he made was cutting the leading ridge of the cleat to aid in releasing sticky snow from between the double ridged cleat. I have a 16 inch wide set on my 8N at home.The leading ridge was eliminated at the factory to rid of this problem.
Saw on reply about getting a Cat. I purchased a Cat a couple of years ago and they both have there places. If you can find all steel half tracks and it fits your needs it is the better route. Good luck!

A real crawler is helpless on ice. It will put you at the bottom of a hill sideways real fast.

Rubber sticks to ice better than tracks. Come to Mn. in the winter sometime.
