Bought an H

No ,I haven't bought manuals yet. I just backed it off my trailer a few hours ago . How do check the motor oil? A quick look around and I didn't see any where obvious.

Don't have an H, but if it's like the A's and B's there will be a check plug down below the belt pulley. Screw it out a couple turns. If oil comes out, you're good to go.

Edited to add pic. This is my '42 A. My '36 unstyled A has it on the left side below the flywheel.

Here are the oil level check points. And you should probably crack open the transmission drain plug (swing the drawbar to the side to expose the plug) to drain any accumulated water before you check the transmission oil level - and there almost certainly will be some!

Go to the link Jim posted in the JD5210 thread and when you select “Equipment Publications” change the box to search for “Part #/ keywords” type in OMR2011 and the H operators manual will come up for you to view or download.
Here is a link to the online parts catalog.
JD H parts
Just FYI that is the previous edition of the online catalog. To check availability of a part from JD you will have to go into the new version. When you check out a cart in the old version it takes you into the new version. Also no need to load a bunch of PNs into the cart it will be dumped in the transition.

That should be a nice little project. I had a '42 H in the collection about 4 years ago, and had a '38 B for quite a few years before that. Both went away in about 2021-22, but I don't think they're the units. The AC was No. 2527, and the Deere was H43339.

The only difficulty I recall is the DLTX10 carb being very sensitive, requiring some extensive rework to tighten up.

The H didn't use a #10 carb, they used a #46 but the same principal.

Early hand start tractors used DLTX26, but your statement that #10 was not used is still correct. I believe the only difference between #26 & #46 was in the choke lever. The 46 lever had a hole for a pull rod.
