Brake shoe adjustment

If you are facing the inside of the brake drum, which direction tightens the brake - CW (clockwise) or CCW (counter clockwise) for right and left? Shop manual does not say, I am not replacing or I would have known from installing, just want to adjust.

1949 front distributor 12V (like that matters to the brakes) 8n.

Thanks,

Dave

Lewis........ya know, as many star-wheel brake adjusters that I've adjusted in over 50yrs, I can NEVER REMEMBER which way to tweek'em. Up-or-Down. I also think it depends upon whether its the right brake or the left brake, would be different. I just start tweekin' and iff'n they don't start to tighten up after a while, I go the other way. Simple, eh?

Actually, the star-adjuster thread is normal screw, righty-tighty, lefty-loosey. Normally you'd be extending the screw (lefty-loosey) to expand the brake shoe. Now you haffta think which way is lefty-loosey with respect to the star-wheel. .......Dell

I believe it reads in one of the manuals , can't remember which one , I think it said and if I remember right turn towards the back both sides.

just did mine, the handle of the screwdriver or whatever goes foward to tighten, both sides
(I think)
I wrote it down but am not at my shop.

Mash your brake pedal that you intend on working on, and note how far it travels.

Then turn the adjuster some, and then mash the pedal again.

Did it come up or go down?

I kept forgetting so used a marker pen and made an arrow next to the adjuster cover, arrow pointing on both sides to the back. Then all I have to remember is that this is direction to tighten on my '48 8N. Angelo
