Brinly corn planter

After a long search I found a Brinly Corn planter in Great shape with a number of plates.

Unfortunately none of the plate work with the sweet corn I have (Monarch) as the plate picks up 2 or 3 kernels at a time. The supplier says of the seed recommends a B2/C2 JD/IH plate. The corn is a very small flat kernel.

Talked to Briny and Cole who said they never designed a plate for the newer hybrid sweet corn - wasn't around at the time. One said to take a grinder to the plate to make the corn pickup smaller and it should work.

Anyone grind down a cast iron Brinly/Cole/Covington planter plate? and how did it work/what would you do different?

Help!

Could you fill in the plate holes with jb weld,
When it sets up, drill and grind out the holes to the desired size.

I am a certified ky card carrying red neck so we play by different rules sometimes.

My little JD planter does a great job of planting my sweet corn. Guess I was just lucky with the plates I have with the unit.

Really good idea

Just like spackling a wall. Put some on sand it down and repeat until I get it right

Was a little nervous about the grinding. - really only one chance to get it right And without a pattern or sample to follow

Thanks

You've got a pattern, a hopper full of seed. Keep grinding, till you can pick up the seed corn, in every cell, without scratching or grinding the seed.
