broken hood

What is the best way to repair a fiber glass hood that has a hole punched in it? Fiberglass or bondo?
The hole is where it can probably be pushed back from the bottom side. Thanks in advance.

Fiberglass is a real pain to work with....All of the lil fibers in the sheet will make you itch like there is no tomorrow! Bondo is easier in that sense, but you do have to get the ratio of hardner to bondo just right. Too much and it will harden before you get it smoothed out, too lil and it won't harden properly at all and you can get bubbles in there too... Do you have the right tools for body work? Bondo board, spatula, cheese grater, air sander is easiest or you can use electric one, different grits of paper and a sanding block to name a few.

Thanks for the info, i was thinking the same as you, I have a friend who has all of the tools and knowledge. Thanks again.

Your'e welcome, no problem, and if you have a buddy with the equip and know-how, buy him a 6 pack and/or a dinner and he'll be happy.

There is a product called Fibertech that is used for fiberglass repair. It is reinforced with kevlar and other fibers. Hardener is used with it.

Use fiberglass cloth instead of mat. It is a WHOLOE lot easier to work with when patching a hole. Its fun to use.I actually think it is easier to work with than bondo.

I work with the stuff for a living. Here is how if break it down.
1. structural repairs, use glass cloth and epoxy resin. Try to do the repair on the back side out of sight. Also won't leave a bulge that has to be faired in to look good on the outside.
2. Cosmetic repairs. Us bondo or make similar by mixing talc with epoxy resin to the desired thickness. Fill and sand, prime and paint.
Bondo is only a cosmetic filler.

If you can put the patch back into place, they make a special adhesive for it. I've seen it used on corvettes. Try a body supply store.
