Brush Hog Seat Time

Finally got the 860 clutch done and put back together. Boy is it a lot nicer to hog with than the 8n. The slower 1st gear makes a big difference between the trees and live hydraulics/clutch is nice to have. Sure likes its fuel though, just under 2 gallons in just over 2 hours.

Thanks to all who share their knowledge and experience!

The 1st gear on a 5 speed is still a little fast when you're dodging black locust tree limbs...those thorns will grab you quick. Thanks for the pictures...nice tractors.

(quoted from post at 14:34:07 06/27/13) 2 gallons of fuel in 2 hours doesn't sound bad to me when you're working a machine as hard as a brush hog can.

Probably true, but with the 8n I would mow for 3-4 hours and look in the tank and it seems like it never went down. I'm probably hallucinating but thats how it seemed to me

I mowed this week for a lil over 8 hours on under 6 gallons of fuel. Its diesel tho

I know my 641 did ok but not super great. It only had a 5' KK behind it. My 6' would be to much.

Ns run about twice as long per gallon------real close to a gallon per hour.

A gal/hr sounds right. The 8n is a little more nimble in between the trees too. But the 860s live hydraulics makes it a wash on fuel use. I had to replace the 6v battery and regulator so I just switched to 12v with a 1 wire from the rebuilder I used to work for. It's a 78a 12si and it kicks in great, no revving required.
