Bucket list?

I need to connect a rental property to city water
before I die. This job has to be done before I
kick the bucket, hence the bucket list.
It's next to impossible to talk to the people who
work for American water.
I've called 3 different companies who install
water lines. No one seems to want my job.
I have a basement. I have drilled a hole in the
103 year old concrete block that is hard as
steel.
All I need is someone to trench 45 ft and install
the pipe through the hole and put a ball valve on
the pipe. The city water company will set a meter
(which will cost $1400) and connect to the water
line.

I may have no choice but to dig my own trench
with my terramite and install a pipe and ball
valve.

I plan to buy the best water line. Is 250 psi
pipe the highest rated water line?
What is the best way to attach the pipe to a
brass ball valve?
What brand is the best brass ball valve?

Type K Copper tubing will not be cheap, but is better than black, galvanized or plastic pipe.

Most of the name-brand brass ball valves are now made in foreign countries. ...I have had the best life from ball valves made in Italy.

i'd put conduit in the ground and then push some pex tubing through it. if it ever leaks, just pull it out and start over. good luck

No one uses copper.
Plainfield, Indiana requires copper.
My son's neighbor paid mega bucks to have his main replaced.
Copper pipe was less than 10 years old.

What's the best plastic pipe, ball valve and fittings to connect the two.
I had a 4 plastic mains installed.
2 were 20 years ago. The other 3 were installed 30 years ago.
Plumbers did all the work. All used plastic.

I work for a small excavation company and water lines is one thing we do a lot of. I would use copper tubing size plastic, called cts. We have been putting it in for 30 years and have never been back to fix a leak. Just put a stainless steel sleeve in for the fittings and use a compression fitting. We use Mueller brand fittings and think they are the best on the market. One thing to remember is to put a tracer wire with the pipe so a locator can be hooked to it later if the pipe needs to be located.

Put the water line inside of a sewer pipe so if it ever leaks you can pull it out to replace it. We had to replace one already.

2 haven't returned my calls.
Another guy has stood me up 2x.
He's supposed to come out this Friday.
He was recommended by my well guy. My well guy is too busy to do this small job.
I told the guy who was recommended if he's a no show Friday, not to come at all..

I learned Indiana American water requires I use 3/4 inch IPS, 250 psi rated, compression fittings and leave 3 to 5 ft of pipe out of the ground.

There is no reason I can't do the job myself.

I would also recommend after you get all hooked up and before you back fill the dirt take a pressure reading on what the water main is showing. You may find you have high pressure at times and need to cut the pressure back.

Normally 160 psi is the the max for plastic water lines.
American Water uses meters here that have three settings. 35, 55 and I believe 75 psi. They always install the meters at the lowest settings and you have them to adjust it. The meters only have the three settings. So you can't have them set it at say 45 psi.

Everyone here uses 3/4" PEX that is rated for 160 psi and SharkBite fittings (they own PEX). Rarely someone will run the supply line through a 1 1/2" sch 40 or 80 PVC I never did actually see a reason for it. For you will have only two connections that could leak. At the meter or the first connection at the house.

Valworx makes the best ball valves. But costing around $100 each for a 1" stainless valve is a little more than most people are willing to pay.

Apollo and WATTS makes excellent ball valves. You see Apollo valves being used on nearly every natural gas well and pipeline around here for good reason. I have never had nor heard of anyone having any problems using Shark bite valves either.

Whose gonna tap the main? American water? Use whatever American water specifies. Don't forget a stop box at the property line. Our rural water company has the meter at the main and they tap the main probably 2 grand or better to hook up now a days. gobble

I know it is no help but the last one we did we called a guy for a leak and he just replaced the entire line by boring it, and pulling the pipe through. We had to look hard to see that he had even been there.
