I am trying to decide ast to wheather keep a Bush Hog 307 or 406....The 406 is the Heaviest Duty cutter that Bush Hog makes, it 6 foot wide. The 307 is 7 foot wide and its the second heaviest duty mower. which would you keep? the 307 or the 406? I have a 4020 tractor that will be working either one. But I am going to sell one and keep one..which would you keep and why?

I bought a USED 307 many years ago, before BH seemed to go down in quality, and really like it. If the tractor will knock it down the 307 will eat it! Guess it depends on what you want to do with it, if you have heavy duty clearing to do the 406 "may" be the ticket. If you are going to "maintain" cleared land the 307 would be my choice, the extra foot of cut will be noticable.

The 4020 has enough power to put a lot of pressure on the mower, especially if you plan to cut large brush, so I would keep the heavier one. However, I have a tendency to be rough on bush hogs so that might influence my thinking.

far too often people use rotary mowers that are not suited for the tractor they run them on. for example...too much tractor and not enough mower or too much mower not enough tractor.mower should be the same width as tractor for proper cut/results if it is a 3 point model.if you are cutting grass/light brush you also have to mow in a direction that alows blade to pick up the grass that is knocked down by tires or it will streak and that looks like $hit.in my opinion, choose mower that is the width of tractor.
