Bushhog 278 Root Cutter

Can someone tell me how this machine works. I have seen a picture and it looks like a slightly offset bushog, has a side mounted gearbox going to another shaft but the picture does not show the underside and blades. Is this machine made for cutting roots below the surface so as to get new ground ready for pasture?

Set it on ground and it will level mounds grind up rocks
and any thing that go under it. But that is hard on blades.
It works better too mow grass and bushes.

your talking about two different pieces of equipment. one for tilling the soil like the old garden tillers and the other is for mowing grass like some golf courses or larger estates might use. i don't know what your model number refers to but ask your dealer what it is. if it has a big roller on the back its probably a mower. if it just has a flap on the back that you can raise or lower its a tiller.

No, I am not talking about either a flail mower or a tiller -- I am talking about an implement that looks like a regular bushhog but is called a root cutter, the problem with asking a dealer is that bushhog corporation is all but belly up and all dealers in my area have completely disassociated themselves from bushhog -- I guess so they don't get stuck with inventory they can't sell or send back.

looks like you missed read rotary cuter for root cutter. the only thing i know of made to remove roots is a dozer with a root rake on it.
