Having never owned one, I"m a babe in the woods when it comes to Case tractors. I"ve read both pros and cons(mostly cons) on the Case-O-Matic tranny. Has anyone had a C-O-M that was 100% trouble free? Curious, mostly. Thanks.

I have eight of them and have thousands of trouble free hours on them, I have never had any thing fail on mine, I had one have a sticky flow valve on it from sitting for 15 years in a shed but I pulled that out polished it and no more problems at all, they are one of my favorite tractors to run and use, i have had COM tractors for over 40 years too cnt

I have a 62 830 COM with a dozer on that we use to push up silage in several bunker silos a year. 1500# on the eagle hitch for traction. 18.4 X 38 tires. 30 years with no problems. Use high range 1st and reverse. Will still spin out. The 930 is a little faster, but much harder on the left knee. If you drive it like a car with an auto trans they are bullet proof. Idle it down, dump the clutch pedal, and speed the engine up to move. You would not speed the engine up before putting your car trans in gear would you?

But how many B series have you had? I can pretty much say the same about the 800 on up but not the B series trying to put the B series set together but can not find a good 400 or 600.

The COM was terrible, you dont want it. Out if curiosity where is it and how much. Seriously, treated like a car automatic they last forever and are the handiest tranny ever. Years ahead of the TA or powershift.

I have a 1958 "800" since it was new. It was the primary tractor for 30 years. Then it retired to pulling a hay baler for the next 20 years. Now it just backs hay wagons in the shed.
The C-O-M is still good in it. My favorite tractor. I have 4 more with C-O-M that I use. Two of them had to be worked on becuase of neglect from former owners. Change oil & filter and they will run forever.

Been Lucky here to have driven nearly every rainbow of colors out there when it comes to makes and models if they were built before 30 yrs ago ,
ShuXX, Aint Nobody around here got new stuff LOL.. all tractors are good for sumthin even thouh a little qwirky ! ,.. and while usin them you find out what shines for which job ,The 800 falls into that catagory .. we are partial to Case because all of my Uncles have Swore by them !, somtimes, even at them .. LOl, all their Life they were loyal to CASE ,, To Drive the old Cases is Like visiting wit hmy uncles and
DAD , even thouhg they have joined the Best Threshin Crew in the heavens tryin to earn their keep so they wont get kicked out.. LOL,, While sowing wheat today with the 800,I Said a litany of prayer for all of them .. Enouh of my Sentimental dreamin , ///// THE 1958 800 diesel is STILL the Grand Lady for Case IMHO //,LIKE a Good Woman They are a Thrill to handle ,once mastered,a little intriguing and complicated but fun ,easy to get along with as long as you treat them fair,(no shiftin and dumpin the clutch with the motor reved wide open )Althouh it wont hurt nothin except grind gears../ and That 800 LADY will surprise you into a panic if you forget to lock the brake and climb off.therefore You will want to keep payin attention to HER Brakes, ///// Oh, and another thing,// if Ya Dont flip that LOCKUP lever and you are baling hay in 5th gear!, with baler plunger momentem she will take off on a steep slope A"HeL'N .!.. Guess How I know ? LOL ./ 5th gear worx great for balin straw and light to heavy windrows that are not consistant , flip direct drive to speed up , tap the clutch to disengage and slowdown so the baler can catch up .. /and hi range reverse worx great to back up equipment or hookin up , just Gun her like a automatic car tranny and hold the brake as needed

We had 2 830 diesel C-O-M...a 1960 and a 64' model. We never EVER had any trouble with either one as far as the case-o-matic was concerned. The 60' was driven mostly by me as a teenager....I would say today that I was extremely abusive on it and we put on over 1200 hours a year on it for many years with it. It did all the heavy tillage work....chopping silage, baling hay, hauling manure with a 180 bushel barrel spreader, etc. It was used just about every day of the whole year. It was a trouper and I still have fond memories of it. Our local Case dealer was once asked about the Case-o-matic trannys....and his quote was " if there was anything wrong with them....it was the idiot behind the wheel". Nuff said!

I have owned a 63 model 830 and two 66 models and after thousands of hours of hard work, nothing and I mean nothing failed on any of them as far as the COM was concerned. A very durable and handy set up for pto work or just about any kind of chore.

I have a 59 800 and a 61 830. Both are COM and i wouldnt trade the COM for a clutch. Both of these tractors are used in the field and and the COM is trouble free.

I"ve never had so much as a hiccup from my COM 811B. Great tranny. THe tractor itself is pretty wore, but the tranny is bulletproof. Of course any idiot can break something, but anyone with an ounce of sense can run a COM for decades.
